I'm 51 male the last 8 weeks I've been irritable, I've got insomnia mood swings, thinning hair a lower than normal libido my beard is growing grey hairs on it and I'm having terrible hot spells at night. All blood work done recently was OK including thyroid. I am thinking of paying on line for a private testosterone test, they are not that expensive. Some people would suggest that the male menopause exists in some form mainly due to a low level of testosterone. What do people think? Anyone experienced this?

Male menopause? .......load of rubbish........in my opinion.

Get a blood testosterone assay done privately or otherwise and if the levels are low, then you are in with a shout re. your diagnosis , if not then look elsewhere for a diagnosis.
Only in geezers with wombs.
You only need to google "Male Menopause" - some of your symptoms are listed.
It's called the 'Mid-Life Crisis' often denoted by men having affairs with younger women & buying Porsches.
It sounds like a combination of minor issues, normal for a 51 year old plus the high humidity which is making it difficult to sleep.

Make sure you are well hydrated, eating healthy options and taking some exercise. It’s easy to ignore those basic things and hopefully that’s all it is.
I've spent the past 3½ years full of drugs that are trying to keep my testosterone as low as possible. (It's been absolutely zero on some tests). That's because prostate cancer needs testosterone to progress (and I rather it didn't!). So I ought to know a bit about low testosterone.

I've certainly had insomnia (although that seems to have disappeared with a recent change in medication), plenty of hot flushes and low (=zero) libido but my hair actually seems to be growing back again after my chemo and, rather than having mood swings, I've been feeling pleasantly 'mellow' much of the time. So there are some similarities with your situation but there are differences too.
By definition it can't be a menopause. The andropause seems controversial but certainly changes do occur as we age
hormone ratios can shift bringing changes with it. I know I am embarrassed to be a lot more emotional than I used to be. Plus something is responsible for postate expansion !

But unlike the other sex, we get told to be a man if that's what we are, and suck everything up with a smile.

If concerned talk to your GP and best of luck.
Wow I’m 51 and can now join my female friends with something to whinge about.

No Arky got hurt typing that post
