'Pass the sick-bowl, Alice.'
Sandy - put a jug of water with fairy liquid inside microwave and turn it on. Your inside fridge will come out like new. Mind you clean the top inside too and your inside doors. Do it for about 10 minutes - depends how much water you use. Keep an eye on it anyway.

Well, there's no great accretions, but even I wouldn't call it clean.

There are, rather than 'theres no'. ^^
What was I thinking of?

I'll cover the food I'm heating with tinfoil after I clean the microwave. That should keep it clean.
you can't put tinfoil in the microwave sandy.
Don't think you should use tinfoil in microwave. Cover with plate or microwaveable Saran wrap
^you do know that tinfoil is actually aluminium foil and shouldn't be used in a microwave?
The danger with food deposits inside a microwave is that they could ignite and a fire could ensue.
Ms sqad says, cut a lemon in half and cook until you see steam or can smell the lemon.
Some of us have a self cleaning microwave ;-)
I once moved in with a chap in the Spring. I opened the oven to find some unidentifiable cremated remains in there.

I asked him when he last cleaned his oven. He looked at me like I was insane and said "What? Ovens need cleaning?"

The remains, it transpires, were Christmas Dinner, which he cocked up and then went to the pub. He had not used the oven since.
I only cook carrots or cheese sauce in my microwave. Other than that I only use it for heating up precooked food and cover the dish with a microwave lid. And I use it for defrosting sometimes. The only thing that can get dirty is theglass turntable which goes on the dishwasher. Strictly nothing metal should go in there.

I do what Ms Sqad does. Makes for a clean oven and a lovely smell.
Metal in the microwave...now safe, apparently.

i just wipe mine down so its spotless if anything had spilled over (very rare in my home)
sandy please try my tip - it is great.
Personally I'd not be putting metal into a microwave, and yes I have been aware for some time the issue is with points/edges of the metal rather than metal per se. But why take a risk ?
Anyway, microwave ovens ought not get dirty. The food is covered the prevent splashing; isn't it ?
