Couldn't a little respect for our opinions, as Christians, be appropriate? Why do atheists and agnostics continually knock our churches. It is to justify their opinions, that is to say that they feel in some way superior and that they can only justify themselves through attack. I wholly respect others' views about religion so please allow Christians to have theirs. It does seem that some can only maintain their views by attacking that of others.

It becomes white noise after a while and you stop reading it I'm afraid, which is sad really.

At least the pretence and Angel stories meant she wasn't stoned to death. I would have been thinking pretty wild stuff if my life depended on it too.
// Why should religion be exempt from criticism?//
knockers, carry on knocking - that is !

I know some very nice people who are atheists - not heavy on good works tho (feeding winos, changing nappies in syria etc)

hi rowan - bad sight day - I thought this was

I would have been drinking pretty wild stuff if my life depended on it too.

and I thought o god such a little raver and butter wdnt melt in her mouth....die wivva smile on your face
Lucky she lived in superstitious times, nowadays she would probably plead date rape and the archangel rohypnol.
Well said Paigntonian. I’m sick of it too.
If you dont want your views challenged, then dont read the threads.
Its not difficult.
As ummm pointed out earlier, its a Q&A site.

You don't know enough of them, PP. Practically every major aid organisation is secular.
Paigntonian : I think we may simply have to accept the fact that atheists are just smarter than us.
I have my beliefs and I will never sway from them. Your beliefs are your own and it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks. Best to ignore the religious thread if it gets you het up.
I have nothing against religion if the individual doesn't lose their sense of humour. My mother and aunt are born again Christians. They don't expect anything from people though.

My mum was preachy when she first 'found the Lord' but she's not anymore.
We differ, Ummmm. I have everything against religion and it shouldn't even be, as 10C posts, tolerated. We should rail against it.

When my family members tell me of the comfort they get from their faith and talking to their god I wonder about the comfort of the unmarried pregnant girls abused by so many followers of that faith. Punished for being pregnant. Often pregnant by "good Catholic" family members or priests. Their babies taken, killed and dumped from a wheelbarrow into a sewage tank. Thousands of them in the name of an imaginary god.
Evils such at that continue today throughout the world in the name of religion. I really can't understand how people don't turn away from religion. What a much better world we'd have.

I'm thinking more about people like my mother. Not the nasty people who hide behind religion.
too many people hurt, killed in the name of any religion not just Christianity.
I find it difficult sometimes to put my thoughts on paper in a calm eloquent way.
Rowanwitch, SD and gness have done that today and I 100% agree with them.
I survived my Catholic childhood.....just!
I'm sure your mum is lovely, Ummmm but I'd say to her as I say to my lot....if you're not turning your back on your church, faith, god then you're not doing enough to rid the world of a bad thing.
Hi, Jake. Yes, I survived mine to but not without some awful memories.
This has brought back to me a lovely childhood friend. A quiet boy. He went off the rails and had a hard time until he left the UK.
I was in my forties before being told, on the condition I told nobody else, about the sexual abuse he'd had to suffer at the hands of one of our revered parish priests.
I would see the headstone of that priest when I visited my father's grave. Not often I regret being totally unable to spit....x
She wouldn't ask your opinion though.
She'd be wise not to, Ummmm. My family are beginning to avoid the subject but it doesn't stop me.... ;-)

Like I said, we need to rail against, otherwise we could be just good men doing nothing and evil will prosper.
I have no issue with people having a deep personal belief, it's organised religion I have a problem with. Do any evil you choose for a lifetime, turn to God and repent and whoopy do you can go to heaven. I am only grateful that for the most part our legal system doesn't work quite like that... Apart from the parole system ...forgot about that.
