I am ordering a phone for someone for Xmas (landline) - and this time there will be caller display on the phone. Now I have one but have had one for a long time.

I "chatted" to BT and they said "oh it is free now". Call Display. I thought I always paid for it.

Anyhow - does the "new" phone need to be registered for Call Display. Thanks

No.
No, they all ( of nearly) all come with that feature, what you pay for is call waiting of call time either nights and weekends or up to 59 minutes JJ

that's great - so all I have to do is plug it in for her and when a number comes up - she can see the number right away. It's for sister

The other thing do you think there'll be a feature on it for me to type NAMES and numbers for her so that when the number comes up - she can see the name. thanks
No, whatever package you have its a free add on. It used to be £1.99 I think. As long as the phone has a display screen your friend will be able to see who is calling.
Jenny, you or her will be able to put people's names and phone numbers in the phones address book so when for example her sister calls, it will say 'meg' or 'sister' rather than the number. If you don't add names to the address book just the numbers will be displayed.

yes thanks APG - but can you answer that last question - can I type NAME and number on for her
Reading this link, it appears you have to request it but you can do it online.

thank you all - that's great, yes APG - I thought my £1.99 was in somewhere on my payment.

she will love that cos at the minute she is getting bothered with nuisance call (from somebody she knows)
I would check your bills if I were you. I was charged for it for a while after if went free and it was only when I queried it that they took it off and gave me a refund.
If the caller withholds the number, the number will not be displayed.

Just add the names and no's into the 'phones address book.
SlackAlice -thats what I advised -add names and numbers into the phones address book
Jenny 10.44 Yes you have to pair the name with the number in the address book. The phone will come with an Instruction booklet to show you how to, or you will probably be able to go online and watch a video.
When I bought my new phone I just charged it and entered names and numbers when I set the phone up. Ring tone, number of rings etc. I do not remember any charge on my phone bill for caller display
As your sister is bothered by nuisance calls buy her a phone with a call blocker - mine is excellent. Very simple to use. https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/phones-broadband-and-sat-nav/telephones/telephones/bt-4600-cordless-phone-with-answering-machine-10144095-pdt.html
You chatted with BT?
Question Author
thanks guys - I will be able to do that for her as I have a phone something similar to the one I will be getting her, and I was able to input names and numbers on my phone - thanks for your help again.

Ummmm - ONLINE
As JJ wrote, "chatted", it might have been an online conversation.
Question Author
Ummmm - did you not notice the apostrophes "chatted". You should be named Thomasina (the doubting Thomas)
