Pretty sure I've adked a similar question in the past but I can't be bothered to trawl through pages of my posts.

Anyway, I have been getting quite bad toes cramps lately and one of my mates mentioned drinking tonic water for it. I've tried googling but there seems to be mixed opinions on whether this works or not. Does anyone know for definite?

Cheers

It didn't work for my wife.
I get this too. My podiatrist recommended drinking Indian Tonic Water as there is quinine in it, but I have been told by others that there isn't enough in a glass or two that would make any difference.
Tonic water is said to help because it contains quinine, which is recognised as helping to prevent cramp.

However the levels of quinine in tonic water might not be enough to actually do anything. A quinine-based treatment really ought to be used under medical supervision anyway, as there are certain risks associated with it:

I take calcium and magnesium sups but still get toes cramps.

On the odd occasion I have had calf muscle cramps but toe cramps are regular.
Standing on the bottom stair and taking all of my weight on my toes is the only thing that ever worked for me.
Jim that doesn't work for me as I live in a bungalow!
Insufficient hydration perhaps, Tigger?

I have to keep my toes pressed upwards for a long time before it starts to wear away.

I will give the tonic water a go though, and see if that helps when the cramping starts.

I try to drink as much as possible but I'm always needing the loo...!
Magnesium oil from Holland and Barrett works for me.
Rub it in at the first sign of cramp and it goes almost immediately.
I started taking quinine tablets for cramps when they suddenly went from 2 or 3 a year to 2 or 3 a week. They work, but they've made my hearing a lot worse.
Never been convinced of the efficacy of redydration or quinine as a method of curing cramps in the foot.
Are you suffering from any pre-existing medical condition e.g diabetes or poor circulation?
If your problem is just in the winter.....then try a hot water bottle at your feet.
Sqad, yes, I should have made clear mine were leg cramps, not toe or foot. They vanished from day 1, though, so if it wasn't the quinine it was a mighty big coincidence.
I've suggested this to others with cramps, I've found taking a few grains of course Himalayan salt works wonders. Any cramp goes in minutes.

I'm not diabetic but I may have poor circulation although not diagnosed.

Where can you get Himalayan sea salt from?
Widely available Tiggs.

I get cramp in all parts of my body; arms, back, neck etc. Not the usual parts that lots of people experience. I've tried tonic water to no avail. I even tried quinine tablets. They didn't work either. I just put up with it now
