As a simple moral and hypothetical question - I would hope that my loved ones would not be happy if loss of my soul was the price they paid for that happiness.
They'd have no choice, the deal will have been made, they will find themselves happy whether they like it or not.
I go with emmie. By the way, if you believe in a force for good (which I do) call it what you will - there has to be an opposite. No matter how nebulous both concepts are -yin/yang etc..
