I have been having various tests. Cancer and Crohn's have been ruled out. Now I know I should have noticed the information on this report earlier.....I'm having a sort out of paperwork today.

I have a Gastroscopy Report (5th April) which reads: Specimens: 6x biopsy. Result of unrease test proved negative for Helicobacter pylori.

This was followed a couple of weeks later by a letter saying that as I have proved positive for
H.pylori I must see my G.P. for a course of two antibiotics....I know...I should have noticed the difference... :-(
My G.P. disagreed with the diagnosis for my symptoms and the treatment, as did I, so I went back to the consultant. He doesn't want to know any more until I have taken the antibiotics. I won't.

Now I know I need to get this straightened out with the consultant but.....

I have no upper gastric problems....no heartburn, indigestion....nothing at all.
Problems are lower GI tract and all the research I am doing on H.pylori doesn't fit in at all with my symptoms....which I'm not posting here!

If this makes sense I would appreciate your thoughts.....Gx

Well, first of all, things seem to have changed in the last decade in that the gut seems to be examined from top to bottom (sorry!) despite the symptoms indicating one site.

Well, you either HAVE h.pylori or you HAVEN'T and i would go on the biopsy and gastroscopy saying that you HAVEN'T.
I would have thought that it was unreasonable of the consultant not to offer an explanation of the two opposing letters.

I suppose that you have had a Colonoscopy and that proved negative.

I don't know what your symptoms are, but i wouldn't take the antibiotics, I would "sit tight" and monitor the situation.

I do not know what your symptoms and i am assuming that you have had a Colonoscopy.
P.S Rapid Urease....;-)

Thank you, Sqad.....I have had a colonoscopy (all clear) and gastroscopy. The gastroscopy was performed by the same consultant who sent me the report saying negative and the letter saying positive.

I should have taken more notice of everything on the report shouldn't I, so I could have sorted this earlier. Let my guard down there a bit..too laid back for my own good I think...

Symptoms are far too many visits to the loo from waking til early afternoon......too many and fairly urgent.....not every day but most....
Nothing showed up in the colonoscopy....and I feel extremely fit well.....my running speeds have improved greatly.....and I can take the stairs two at a time.....just a flaming nuisance.... :-)
This has been dragging on for about six months now.....and yes....I am sitting tight.....well sitting lots anyway......x
Question Author
Thank you.....just says urease test......I shall use Rapid when we speak.....just so he thinks I know what I'm talking about....perhaps ..though the word Rapid is not on my list of favourites at the moment.... :-(
Not an uncommon story gness.
I suppose that one should consider IBS.....not typical if it is as constant as you say.....but at least it is a "cop out diagnosis" for me. ;-)

Cancer, is extremely unlikely.
Keep in touch eh?

Bloody heck......I am using links now..;-)
Question Author
Mmm....nobody has copped out with IBS yet.....I don't think so but I'll look at it....
I am not at all worried....just a bit cheesed of with it now.....thank you anyway and if I get an answer and sorted we'll have a drink....xx
That would be ....BLISS........;-)
Question Author
You are! You'll be doing a what's for dinner thread before you know it!

Well from that it should have been definite...red or yellow.....:-)
Question Author
You know?....I think it would!.. x
gness, I've had similar symptoms now getting on for 2 years. It is almost certainly IBS and it's worse and very active around my time of the month. It affects my quality of life and the only way I can control it is by fasting periodically which helps a good deal in the short-term but it always comes back again.
Question Author
Thanks, NoM....I really don't fit with IBS.....and any changes I've made to eating and drinking have had no effect at all.......but we'll see....xx
Gness, I get the symptoms no matter what I eat.

WARNING - GRAPHIC CONTENT ...

Some days all I "pass" is wind, blood and mucous. That scenario can go on for days at a time leaving me feeling washed out and low in mood. My Dr does not seem in the least bit concerned about it and it's put me off going back to pursue investigations. I've just learnt to accept that it's part of everyday life now. Super-strength probiotics haven't made a blind bit of difference.
Question Author
I'm lucky in having a fantastic doctor I guess.....but I have no wind problems, pain, cramps, bloating.....not a thing so that's why we've not considered IBS....x
^^^^ that is a reasonable conclusion.
Doesn't sounds like IBS in that case.

Have you had a colonoscopy yet?
Question Author
mmm.....my gastric gut feeling says no...but we shall see...thanks both....x
Question Author
NoM...if you include the ear specialist there is nowhere I have not had explored..... ;-)
I was diagnosed with H-pylori last year and my symptoms were nothing like yours. As you suggested earlier, I had acid reflux as well as bloating and abdominal pain.
Question Author
Thank you, Milo.....may I ask....were you prescribed the two antibiotics? Metronidazole and Clarithromycin....and if so did they work?..x
