Ok my periods have always been short - never more than 3 days long. Never every 28 days but always every month. Never miss one. Last month completely normal. Last Monday I started again but it was different. I was in absolute agony pain wise and was in tears. Was passing huge clots as well. Decided if still as bad next day I would go to doctor but pain cad cleared by about 80%, and was then gone the next day. 9 days later and I’m still bleeding - has been fairly light until about an hour ago when I went to the loo and the flow is basically like I’m weeing. I feel absolutely fine and don’t want to bother anyone unnecessarily but not sure what’s going on?

could you have been pregnant?
secondly, if you are at a peri-menopausal age, periods often do extraordinary things as a last huzzah
I agree with bednobs on both counts.
Sounds horribly like my ectopic pregnancy ( years ago )
I'd get yourself checked out ASAP
Same as bednobs. Quite common unfortunately. Doctor gave me a hormone drug to stop the bleeding but can't remember what it was called. It will settle eventually.

Being pregnant would be incredibly incredibly unlikely at my age (48). Guess the peri - menopausal is a possibility but recent blood tests said I wasn’t. Hmmm...
Do you have fibroids?
Question Author
I was told I had a couple of teeny ones a year ago but said they were so small it wasn’t worth doing anything.
How do you feel and what is the blood like? My feeling is that if you were actually haemorrhaging then you wouldn't be posting on here....I agree that its likely to be either an early miscarriage or perimenopause, having experienced both. If you feel okay and aren't in pain...I mean pain as opposed to discomfort, then contact doc tomorrow, but if you are not feeling okay then I reckon get medical advice tonight.
Question Author
I feel ok. But when I sit on loo(sorry!) the loo is just full of blood. I will see how tonight goes and then ring doctor on the morning I think.
My mother takes Tranexamic Acid tablets for horrific periods. She always had light ones until into her mid 40's then all hell broke loose, and she had a terrible time. Go and see your GP if I were you.
Anything out of the ordinary should be discussed with your GP, Smow.....that's what they are there for....x

Thankyou everyone. I will see doctor tomorrow - can’t be doing with this! I’ve got towels on everything that I sit on.
Been there , Smow. GP is next step.
Smow, from experience, a little menstrual blood in the loo looks like a lot more that it actually is....and a fair bit looks like masses.
get yourself checked out....simples.....
Question Author
I will and thankyou everyone. Most helpful - as ever x
Ectopic.......very unlikely.......very unlikely.
Fibroid.....unlikely but possible.
Peri menopause.......unlikely but possible.
Endocervical polyp.....likely.

Monitor the situation for the next 48hours and take ibuprofen for the pain.

Definitely see your GP tomorrow - and don't let a receptionist fob you off with an offer of an appointment in 2 weeks time. Time to be assertive!

Thanks sqad and diddlydo x
Question Author
Well I rang the doctors, who couldn’t fit me in but could give me a telephone appointment. Doctor finally rang and said that he didn’t think I was peri menopausal as per recent blood tests, but that I could be lacking in progesterone , which clots the blood (??) so he has prescribed me 10 days of tablets and see how I get on...
