Why is it if I go to the gym Monday evening after work, I wake up Tuesday and feel fine. But when I wake up on Wednesday I get the muscle pain. I just don't understand how I can be fine all of Tuesday but not the day after.

Muscle fibres are damaged during strenuous exercise. On the second day the fibres are really starting to heal. They stick back together and will become short and tight unless they are regularly extended. It is important to do stretch during the first couple of days so they heal with the ability achieve their full length.

How did mussel get changed to muscle here? If you look under Body and Soul at the top, this question has 'I get the mussel pain.'

How did that get corrected?
Thanks beso. I always wondered during my water-skiing days why my arm muscles ached so much on day 2.
Hey Tilly. Sometimes we edit posts when we notice an accidental spelling mistake.
Does anyone know the answer to my question, above?
Thank you, Spare Ed.

I thought I was going mad!
Look up Tilly ^^^^
Crossed posts here. :-)
They’re called DOMS

Delayed onset muscle soreness and I love it as it signifies that I’ve really worked out.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delayed_onset_muscle_soreness
“The soreness is felt most strongly 24 to 72 hours after the exercise.[1][2]:63 It is thought to be caused by eccentric (lengthening) exercise, which causes small-scale damage (microtrauma) to the muscle fibers. After such exercise, the muscle adapts rapidly to prevent muscle damage, and thereby soreness, if the exercise is repeated.[1][2]:76

Delayed onset muscle soreness is one symptom of exercise-induced muscle damage. The other is acute muscle soreness, which appears during and immediately after exercise.”
