Hi there
I am having severe toothache I went to dentist on Friday and was told I have an irritation of the nerve at a deep rooted tooth. Lower jaw right They are going to take it out but first available appointment is 1 week on Tuesday. Ive put my name down for a cancellation and they will call me if there is one. Hopefully will be. I took 1 1/2 cocodamol 30/500 on thursday night and felt a bit sick after. But I took 2 x 1 through the evening. 1 does not seem to help much. Tonight my jaw seems to have gone into spasm. I have taken 5mg diazepam but I need pain relief is it ok to take 2 cocodamol? I am on antidepressants and as a side effect I suffer from bruxism teeth clenching and it has been awful today.

I sympathise with you, geordie. Nothing worse than the toothache.
I know that you are a Scot, geordie. Are you anywhere near Glasgow ?.
There is an emergency dental hospital there, I'm pretty sure they would whip that bad tooth out for you before a week on Tuesday.

As you're in that much pain they should find space for you with an emergency appointment. Phone them back again and tell them what meds you are taking in order to get through this.
As long as you're not exceeding maximum daily dose for either you can take those together.

I phoned NHS24 who put me through to dental out of hours and they have suggested 1 paracetemol and 1 cocodamol as I didnt know I could take that, so Ive given a try and see if it helps. If not I phone them back. I have also taken a valium so I should sleep well !! I think its a complicated extraction because of the deep roots so thats why my dentist didnt other to do it then but I really hope I can get something sorted soon.
Hope so too.x
This really helped me, there are to versions I think, I got the extra strength version, much nicer than Clove Oil. It was usefult before and after an extraction (also complicated). It's a teeny tube but you only use a tiny bit at a time.

Can you set yourself reminders or carry a note round with you to remind you to relax your jaw if you are clenching it while awake?

I found ibuprofen helped me too, I can't take much of it but I took the odd one which did make a difference.

Have you had a tooth extracted before? I'm guessing it's a molar? Can you discuss with them in advance about managing your anxiety if that might be an issue when you have the tooth out?
Gordie if you are near Edinburgh Chalmers emergency will see you today as an emergency
