Hi all

I am now 40 +5 days and will be seeing my consultant this week re possible induction.

Today I’ve woken up and baby has moved up rather than down.

The bottom of my stomach is soft and baby is now as high as can be.

Up until now Baby was moving the right way and was very much in my Pelvis - I’ve been in agony for the last two weeks due to pelvic pain.

Why would she move up rather than down?

Thanks

Is it your first baby?
This "may " suggest that the head is too big for your pelvis ( cephalopelvic disproportion) OR, the baby has turned and the head is no longer the presenting part.
No big deal, but prepare yourself for a C-section.
Phone your midwife.

Is baby moving as normal?
Question Author
Yes my first pregnancy and I have felt her moving about.

She seems determined to make this whole pregnancy as difficult as possible.

They can engage during labour. I'd phone the midwife though. She might arrange for the induction to be brought forward.
Ah! if it is your first baby, then you are likely to be delivered vaginally........BUT, if your progress is slow, then be prepared for a C-section.
I'm 6 days over and have induction booked this Sunday.

I'd inform your midwife straight away if you think the baby is not head down as this means that you'll need to go to hospital straight away if labour begins.

Getting on all fours and rocking back and forth may encourage baby to move.
I can't understand this mad rush to inform the midwife but if this will allay your anxieties, then do so.
What can the midwife do?
Goodluck GF and NoMercy ! I am sure you will be fine. But I am glad it’s not me ! Keep us updated!
Sqad, at 32 weeks my baby was still lying transverse and I was told that I must go to hospital immediately if labour started as matters could get very complicated.

If GF is 5 days overdue and baby is not head down, I think she should communicate with her midwife. She'll only get b0ll0cked if she didn't and problems arose.
NoM...fine....we will agree to disagree.
Sqad, the Clinical Fellow I saw told me that if labour started with baby in the transverse position, a limb could come out or the cord. However he made it clear that they'd never get the baby out naturally and it could be a dangerous and traumatic experience.

NoM....LOL.
We are not talking about your pregnancy, we have been presented with a primip who's pregnancy has been normal and now, the head is high unlikely at this stage due to a change of position i.e it is still head down but high.
The majority...the vast majority of these patients will deliver vaginally.
So, I ask again....what is the rush?
Sqad, from all of GFs posts, she's had a pregnancy as difficult as mine.

What's wrong with erring on the side of caution?
NoM...NONE.
;-)
A contact with the midwife will put your mind at ease and of course you are keeping them informed as they ask, you haven't had an easy time - soon be there.
Sqad...it's a simple phone call.
ummmm.......I know how simple a telephone call is and so does Greedfly, but she still asked a question on AB and i gave my personal informed opinion as i always try to do.
Right from the onset it was clear that she was going to contact the midwife, but i still felt that i had something to offer.

It has been less than straight forward throughout unfortunately. If she has moved up then she has moved past my placenta and the big fibroid so we can only hope she pushes passed them again.

I spoke with the midwife, she’s given me some exercises to encourage baby back to position.

She was concerned that baby might have moved sideways which would be a problem as NoM has mentioned. It doesn’t seem that way but she did advise if waters break to call the hospital straight away just in case.

As said before I do have an appointment to see a consultant again so I assume if she hasn’t budged by then he’ll make the decision on what to do next.

Thanks all

GF
You've done right, keep us informed, best wishes.
Why do I have the feeling that NoM is going to have a boy on Saturday?
