no. You can opt to have it under a general anaesthetic (I did) but those who have it done with a local say they have no trouble at all.

It's a very common op and I think has a success rate of about 97%.

They just do one eye at a time.

No. You usually have a local anaesthetic - drops or injection (that doesn’t hurt) and you are still awake. There is no need to be terrified.

My Mum (in her eighties) had it done under a local.

She said it was surprisingly easy, and her vision is vastly improved.

It is the most successful operation that NHS does.
I had drops in my eye to anaesthetise it and never felt a thing.
Nothing to worry about whatsoever.
