my preference is a string mop and a squeezy roller bucket.

What do you prefer to use cleaning hard floor areas?

And why?

Er, you're meant to CLEAN floors????

Does not compute!

Many years ago a mate of mine used to have the most awesome dreadlocks, reckoned he could rap dance. We sprayed disinfectant on the floor and let him go.

No cleaning required for at least two weeks.

Beat the heck out of a string mop and squeezy roller bucket.

Alas he died, hence my preference for a string mop. ;-/
Actually I've got extensive experience of using string mops behind bars and, when on night shift at the railway station I used to work at, on the floor of a booking hall that always seemed far bigger at night than it did during the day. I learnt to whizz around those areas at incredible speed and I can't think that any more modern appliance would have helped me do the job either better or faster.

I probably should explain that we never turned our dreadlocked mate upside down and squeezed his head between the rollers.

Even though it may have raised his IQ level ;-/

I've got a steam mop. It does a better job in a fraction of the time, Is dry almost instantly, and takes a lot less effort.
Maybe, Boaty, but you've got to do a lot of work first to generate all the steam that you'll use:

I like that Chris. It's not quite that bad! :o}
Bathe the cat, wrap on a towel & swish it about
That goes against the laws of nature, Tambo!

Cat's exist to make a mess ;-)
For the steam mop it's essential to have the right grade of nutty slack to make it work without too much smoke.
Nutty Slack?

Wasn't she a friend of Larry Grayson?

;-)
You're thinking of Slack Alice, a close cousin. ;o}
Oh, that brings back memories!
Wonderful! I didn't know he'd made that. But that's nutty's close relative right enough! :o}
My preference is also a steam mop, wouldn't be without it. Have they reached down under yet 1ozzy? :-)
I would prefer a steam mop. When we were kids we used to put dusters on our feet, and slide on the wooden hall floor. That kept it clean.
I use a sponge mop twice a day but once a week I get the old brass broom out and use that to scrub the floors, the perks of having 2 dogs and 4 cats!
We have had our mop now for 20 years. It has had 17 new mop heads and 14 new handles .
