how about doing your family history
How about learning a foreign language?

Have you sorted your CDs yet? :)

What about some voluntary work - a day or two a week ??

How about some voluntary work, I do at my local hospital and find it fun and rewarding and you get to meet new people and lots of places need help.
How about getting a allotment!joining a skittle team!joining the national trust at one of there many houses, and learning the history of the place and whats inside it,and then do   voluntary  work showing the public around.making homemade wine beer in your shed.etc.(:)
Most further education colleges run afternoon courses, often at much reduced rates, as part of an 'Over-50's Club' or something similar. My friend, Mary (now 71), has within recent years studied everything from Watercolours to Desk-Top-Publishing. Worth a look?

Also, if you happen to live near an airport used by a budget airline, why not plan a few day trips or short breaks. If you're like me, half the fun is in the planning which can take far longer than the trip itself! (Example, a few weeks ago I took a day trip from Stansted to Malmo in Sweden. After a few hours there, I hopped on the train to Copenhagen in Denmark for the afternoon and early evening, before returning home. It was a good day out but the real fun was in researching the details beforehand and in making my follow-up plans now I know my way around. Flight costs? 0.01 each way!).

Stop washing your hair, buy milk bottle glasses and lurk about in an old dirty mac. Well that's my plans, what? stop looking at me, I am not an animal:O)
i do lots of competitions everyday on the internet and also in mags and the local paper, it keeps me busy and gives me a buzz whenever i win, which i do from time to time. you could visit the local library,  and thers some excellent free musieums too.  how about swimming  or something of that nature.
Well, i still think my idea is best :O(
how about getting a pet if you don't already have one?
My suggestion is: try everything. Think of things you could do, and do them. If you don't enjoy somthing, you don't need to do it again. Go from one thing to another, and you'll find stuff you enjoy. And if you stop enjoying it, stop doing it and try something new.

Things that spring to mind are, swimming, joining a local ramblers' group, selling stuff on ebay, learning a language, taking a night class, doing a degree with open university, painting, visiting local historical sites, cycling, invite some friends round for a game of scrabble, learn to play the harmonica, do a few hours' work at your local charity shop, do some wood carving/whittling, choose books at random (non-fiction) from your local library, buy a digital camera (if you don't already have one), explore public footpaths with a friend (you can probably borrow landranger maps from your local library), take some bird/plant/insect books with you and learn about the things you can see, join every local club, group and society you can, and see what happens.

If the idea of doing some voluntary work appeals to you as some other posters have suggested, the following is a link to the Radio 2 'Time 2 Share' campaign which you might find interesting:
