/// He said the UK has a 'duty' to act and could not leave responsibility for keeping the British people safe to other countries. ///

If the British people were to be attacked from within, which other countries would bother?

/// 'Is there a threat to the British people? The answer is yes,' he said. 'ISIL has already murdered one British hostage and has threatened to murder two
more.' ///

Are these the British people Cameron is talking about, and not the whole body of British people who happen to live in the safe UK?

As I've said several times on AB, I am deeply skeptical that a campaign against IS will do anything to alter the UK's security situation - which, sadly, I suspect we are far less able to control than we realise.
AOG, Still waiting for an answer on your earlier thread.
Unfortunately AOG there is probably no way to end the Islamic jihadi threat to the UK or anywhere else, without declaring all out war to eradicate them world wide.
That would not suit economic interests (oil + comfort + vested interests) so the equivalent of 'keeping Hitler on the mainland' are what the moral cowards are adopting.

And which one would that be? Because I am sorry but I do not have the App that sends "MESSAGE ALERT, MESSAGE ALERT, INCOMING QUESTION FROM dannyk13, MUST BE ANSWERED IMMEDIATELY".

So sorry for that.
We could take the 'Do nothing' option, do you think that would work.

Krom, we are implicated whether we like it or not. Acts of terrorism will be acted out on the UK mainland by these home grown Jihadists that the apologists (many on this site) have allowed to grow.

If you think not taking part will mean they will not do anything against us here in 'safe' UK you are very naive.

Gosh AOG you are overly sarcastic sometimes.
//If you think not taking part will mean they will not do anything against us here in 'safe' UK you are very naive.//

That’s the crux of the matter. If we keep out they aren’t going to ignore us. We’re involved whether we like it or not.
A rare event - I am in full agreement with AOG.

For the pro-bombing brigade - Q. Why didn't we carpet bomb Ireland in the 70s when IRA terrorism was rife in this country: A. It would have been totally ineffective in stopping the terrorism and indeed would have strengthened the IRA's support immeasurably.
There are probably more people killed each year in road traffic accidents in the UK than have ever been killed by terrorists. They can bring grief and misery to the families of their victims but don't represent any serious threat to the UK.
//hey can bring grief and misery to the families of their victims but don't represent any serious threat to the UK.//

My God, whatever you are smoking pass it round quick !
( Cynic Mode On)
Iraq has the fifth biggest proven oil reserves in the world. We may not protect Britain from terrorism but we can help preserve and secure our supply of oil for a while.
( Cynic Mode Off )
I'm sure the 52 killed and 700 injured in the London bombings in 2005 would have been glad to know they weren't part of a serious threat.
sandyRoe, terrorist attacks aren't accidents.
There is a military technique called 'attrition' If you can isolate an enemy so that it's forces and supplies cannot be replenished as quickly as they are destroyed then they will be defeated. When none of the jihadis can afford an easyjet flight to Gatwick we will all be safe :o)
As I have posted on another thread, Hassan Rouhani correctly (imo) said yesterday at the UN "The right solution to this quandary comes from within the region and a regionally provided solution with international support and not from the outside the region."
The more we bomb, the more terror we can expect on the UK mainland.
Graham; There's plenty of oil elsewhere.
Indeed, terrorist attacks in the UK aren't accidents. But they present no more danger to the stability of the state and its institutions than any accident does.
The can leave survivors suffering a lifetime of pain, and relatives and friends of those killed with grief filled days, but no more than that.
Khandro, there appears not to be a local solution however much we would like there to be one.
sandyRoe, time for a new wooden spoon. The one you're using is very worn.
My answers here have been serious. A few terrorist incidents won't change anything.
Look at the situation in NI during Thatcher's early days in office. She is said to have considered, but quickly rejected, plans to redraw the border. If that had happened it would have come about because of years of near civil war. A few isolated incidents would never have brought such a plan to the attention of senior politicians.
But the IRA didn't have world domination and the imposition of the catholic faith on the entire populace as it's ultimate goal Sandy.
