I may be looking at a prolonged period in hospital.

I've only been in hospital twice once as a child and again for a two night stay 20 odd years ago.

I'm looking for tips for how to make the stay as comfortable as possible.

My biggest concern is do hospitals have free wi-fi????

Do you have a DVD player? They can come in handy if you have a batch of DVDs.
Most hospitals have a pay for tv service....very expensive, so don't have WiFi....download lots of BBC programmes on laptop or tablet to watch without WiFi....or portable DVD machine....iPod or mp 3 for music...Good books....ear plugs, eye mask, wet wipes, mirror , cosmetics so you feel human...bit of perfume....dishy doctor......
237SJ is spot on...a portable DVD player is essential.

All hospitals have WIFI, but not all will give your password code......but some will.
I hope it doesn't come to that Eccles, who'd eat my cheese scones?

Phone the hossie and ask if they have wi-fi, if not, I'd suggest getting a dongle.
Do you read?
A kindle and e-books might be an idea.
Bromide:-)
Big no no in Edinburgh infirmary...they want you to pay for tv...
Not answers to your question but...

Don't forget to remove all jewelery before going.

All the best and speedy recovery.
how times move on.
Last time I was in hossie, there were 2 lounges for patients, the one with the tv was for non-smokers.

OK, I'm assuming that all beds will have a spare socket for me to run my laptop off whilst I'm watching DVDs?

Are hospital lockers secure these days?

A dishy Dr.....as appealing as eye candy is I'm not sure I'll be in the mood to appreciate it :-(
just don't call the dishy doc, 'sqad' :-)

sqad will be most offended.
plus it doesn't count if they see you in your nightie
Take Tea Tree Oil, Eccles....wipe everything with it......don't let anyone near you unless you know for sure they have washed their hands...insist that consultants take off their outdoor coats before examining you....I know one who did rounds in a flowing waxed coat....P....... the Pillock he was known as....
Pay a child to sneak you in edible food......should they object form your own religion with special dietary requirements......

Good Luck....Gx
We've never had a problem taking food in.
If you are going to be pretty poorly for any of your recovery time, make sure you have someone to visit you regularly who will speak up if you are not being looked after properly.
AH...."looked after properly?"

the NHS?.........how dare you?

I'm putting the food issue to the back of my mind...... :-( I'm sure I can work out a visitor rota to ensure I get a decent feed at least once a day.

I just hope I get parked in a local hospital, if not I'll starve and be bored rigid.....but hopefully receiving the required treatment.
I did Ummmm.....Leicester General over eleven years and many stays... Hence the founding of the Portswood Brethren.
You will probably be told you can't bring in your mobile phone, but staff are obliged to do this as the private PFI companies who run the hospitals want you to use their expensive TV/phone/Wifi services.
As long as you are reasonably discreet the ward staff don't mind. I found the new smart phone I bought before going in a great help.
All the books came home unread. There is so much going on that you may not be as bored as you think.

Best of luck with it all.

I should be fully compos mentis and able to get around throughout my stay, if I need an advocate something will have gone horribly wrong.
That must have been awful. I've only dealt with Northampton general and they were always okay.
