jno. Far be it for me to defend the Police here on AB, as I am not their biggest fan, but the riots of 2011 severely stretched their capacity to respond to everywhere at the same time. We must never forget that a democratic country like Britain is governed and policed by consent....our consent. If enough people decide that they are going to break the law and riot,...

this sort of case doesn't help the police one little bit.
Question Author
perhaps there are other more important cases to be worried about.
please make it go away!
Question Author
ok. gone. x
Well, at last we are seeing some progress in this sorry affair...two Policemen sacked and one of them in jail. Who would have thought it...the Police actually being held responsible for misdemeanors ! Never thought I would see the day.

All bodes well for the up and coming Hillsborough Inquests then.
Question Author
whilst remembering that the majority are not like this.
Of course emmie...goes without saying. The only guilty Plods are the ones that are caught.
Question Author
what would happen if we had no police, none, would we all behave, no of course not. There would be large scale looting, crime, anarchy. We need the police, just as we need the armed services, i have admiration for those that put their lives on the line everyday in respect of the general public.
Again, goes without saying emmie.
there was as I recall looting a couple of years ago. We had police, they just didn't bother turning up for a few days.

What makes this case different is that an MP was involved. Cops wouldn't be sacked for lying about me.
Question Author
not sure i understand that, the police not turning up for days, if you mean the riots of 2011.
I do. You probably watched the looting and burning in Croydon on TV, the same as I did. Where were the police?
Question Author
spread all over the place, they didn't show up days later, not as far as i remember

We must never forget that a democratic country like Britain is governed and policed by consent....our consent. If enough people decide that they are going to break the law and riot, that that is exactly what they will do. The Police cannot hope to contain the conditions that exploded those few days in August 2011. Personally I think that the Armed Forces should have been used immediately that the rioting looked as if it was going to get out of control. A controversial move perhaps but remember people died back then.
Question Author
water cannon, and next time, if there is one i hope they are used.
I saw the devastation, in one shopping area, they had every other window smashed, shops looted, the mess was awful
