I thought I might try using Omega 3 fish oil capsuals. Yesterday in Costco they had Wild Alaskan Salmon Omega 3 fish oils. I think they are cold pressed oils. I didn`t buy them but am wondering now if I should have. Do you think they are any better than just the regular oils from Holland and Barrett?

No, I don't.

Further, from the NHS website:
"Despite claims that fish oil supplements can help prevent numerous conditions including cancer, dementia, arthritis and heart problems, there is little hard evidence for them. Although they are “natural” products (albeit in a processed form), this does not mean they are safe or suitable for everyone.

While omega-3 supplements are sometimes advised for people who have had a heart attack this supplement is typically used under supervision of a healthcare professional.

If you are thinking of taking omega-3 supplements, talk to your GP or the healthcare professional in charge of your care first."

And why pay Holland and Barrett's exorbitant prices when you can get the equivalent stuff cheaper elsewhere?
Morrisons do a veggie omega 3 oil
I don't eat fish
e.g.:
Holland and Barrett: 100 capsules for £13.99 (14p each) or 200 for £20.98 (10.5p each).

Tesco: 90 capsules for £4.50 (5p each) or 270 for £9.00 (3.3p each)

The main beneficial content of fish oils are the fatty acids EPA and DHA. These are present however the oil is extracted from the fish. "Cold pressing" is a method of extracting oil from olives and anyone claiming their fish oil is cold pressed is likely to be charging a premium price for bog standard oil. The problem with fish oils is that they can contain traces of mercury, but there's no guarantee that the expensive ones contain any less mercury than the cheap ones. Have a look at the prices here http://www.simplysupplements.net/category/57/fish-oils/
Omega 3...EPA DHA ABC BLA BLA BLA.

If you want to buy them and you want to pay for the best...then why not?

Bottom line, is that you will still develop arthritis and heart disease if it is in your genes.
I completely agree with Sqad.
.......... and I too would not dare do otherwise

Ain`t no heart disease or arthritis around here Sqad :-) Can`t say the same for the breast cancer though but anyway. I`ll probably get the salmon ones (might get them cheaper in the US) as the others are made from krill. I`ll try anything once!
Grasscarp - was it you who did a trial of Omega 3?
237..... If is for rheumatic type pains, I would be willing to bring around my aromatherapy oils and introduce you to one of my " special" massages.

I can guarantee that we would both feel much better.

How very dare you! I`m too young to have rheumatic pains but I`ll invent some if you like and you can come round and have a feel.
H&B have sales on all the time at the moment, the last one was Buy one get the other one for a penny - I stocked up.

The GP has put me on fish oil capsules on prescription (there's a shedload of the things in my bathroom) for chloresterol....
237.......;-)
Yes, I was on a Omega 3 supplement trial last year. It was testing my physical and mental skills. I of course was not told if I was on the supplement or not, but I had a side effect of feeling completely calm and never anxious about anything. Such a good feeling that after the trial came to an end, and they confirmed I was on the Omega 3, I bought myself capsules and take them religiously every day. I just go for high strength but no particular make.

Thanks Grasscarp. I actually thought of what you said when I saw the capsules at Costco. It`s a bit far for me to drive back there but I think I will get them when I see them again somewhere.
That is really good to know that you remembered me! Made my day that has.
@ Sqad But BLA and ABC are really important supplements, Sqad ;)
My late mother swore by Green Lipped Mussells capsules, she bought them mail order from that firm in Jersey who were very much cheaper than others. I could see her capacity decline if she ran out of them, she was more stiff and less alert.
LazyGUN........LOL ....I knew that you would recognise them......;-)
It may sound obvious, but why not eat more oily fish such as mackerel, sardines etc?
