Morning....silence is not golden....I have gone very, very deaf.
Started with whooshing noises in my ears which changed in volume depending on how I moved my head.

On Saturday my hearing suddenly became poor while I was driving....so much I thought my engine had cut out.

I saw a pharmacist who sold me some drops which were to do all sorts of crackling explosive things in my ears......nothing at all. I did ask about a decongestant but he said not to use that.

This morning the hissing is worse and I am even more deaf.

I have an appointment with the nurse on Friday....is there anything I can do or buy myself before then?

Thanks Gx

p.s. It has made me reluctant to speak....can't really hear my voice properly and think I'm shouting so I suppose every cloud.....☺

gromits. at your age :) sorry you feeling so off, give the steroids a try. have you been swimming lately ?
That is good news which will have a satisfactory outcome.
Th steroid spray should help and periodically, nip your nose and with your lips tightly closed, blow down your nose.

Thank you, Bernie..x......if you start cuddling me Mrs Bernie might just sort your ears out for you......☺☺
And Bernie, she's naked as a baby down there, brrrrrrrr, the best look and one that soon lead to having those ears of hers pop and clear......

With my mater, gness, it was warm oil for four days x three times a day and then they flushed it out - the material could have built a dam on the River Parrett.
saw the nurse today for my 6 month diabetic check up all ok !
told her about my ears i've been putting warm olive oil in them for 2 days now, got to do them for a week, if no better will be syringed again but they do feel a bit easier x
Question Author
Tried the oil and drops,DT with no luck....unfortunately my ears are pretty much waxless.....
Sqad will know better but it seems this problem is the fluid on the other side of the eardrum.....hence the nose bit I suppose.

I can now play a whooshing tune though....by moving my head around...no end to my talents.....☺

Question Author
Glad your check up went well, Bernie.....always a relief.....when I was trying the oil I used Extra Virgin Olive Oil......no idea if that was correct!...☺
that's what I'm using gness!
wonder if any one knows where the wax comes from in the 1st place??
Question Author
Bernie....I have never thought of that.....now I'm wondering too.
sqad will know!!
Hi gness x
my sister had grommets at 30 due to loss of hearing and tinnitus. She couldn't believe how immediately it worked. My nephew and son also had grommets for glue ear when young (to let out the fluid behind the eardrum). I hope yours is as effective and straightforward as theirs were.
bernie.......yes I do know.

Glands in the skin of the outer ear produce a waxy liquid solution which is cleansing and anti bacterial.....trouble is, it may quickly solidify :-(

Thanks, Pixie....as long as I can hear...mishearing can be a disaster.

At a noisy do once and waiting for our food a chap asked me if I was on my own....hoping for a date I later found out.

I thought he'd asked me if I was a panini....No, I replied....I'm a baked potato... :-(
pixie..Gromit tubes are not drainage tubes, they are not meant to drain fluid out, but ar ventilating tubes...they are to let AIR in. With air in the middle ear, the fluid does not form
Question Author
Thanks, Sqad.......bit of a design fault there.....x
Fair enough, sqad. The surgeon told me i should notice a difference to my son, as a lot of fluid had drained out, so i maybe misunderstood how they worked. But i was really pleased, because on the way home, i was chatting to him in the back of the car (he was 4) and he could hear me. I suddenly realised I'd always had to make sure he was looking at me before. Amazing difference.
