Dislocated Finger - Medical Advice Please

Four weeks ago I fell whilst walking dislocating the middle finger of my right hand. I knew it was dislocated as it was at a 45 degree angle when I picked myself up & looked down. I flicked my hand and it went back where it should be. All 3 joints bruised after a few hours and the whole finger swelled. Painful too but better with ibuprofen. Top joint and knuckle bruising disappeared after about 10 days, the middle bruising about a week after that.

Four weeks on, still painful but not enough to take painkillers, stiff and difficult to bend, only middle joint swollen (good job I didn't have a ring on that finger as I would never have got it off!).

Should it be better than this by now? Never done anything like this before so no experience. Don't think it's broken as assume it would have been more painful. Is it worth getting it checked? All the advice is that even if its broken there would no treatment. Could it still be dislocated? Really don't fancy popping off to A&E but had hoped it would be better than this.

I'd be grateful for any useful advice.

Hi Jayne, like Sqad says, its just a case of being patient, but it can be painful for a while, I'm hypermobile and my joints pop out all the time, i can put most of them back myself, the hospital says that the only time I have to go in, is if I can't get the joint back within 5 minutes, because i start bleeding inside. You should be fine but it might ache for a while. X

Extremely unlikely to still be dislocated. Nothing much can be done other than , be patient.
There will always be a "weakness" in that joint.....so be prepared for an early arthritic problem in that joint.

i went to my doctors with a dislocated finger and he sent me to the hospital, leaving me wondering what he could deal with?

Was going to by-pass the docs and was thinking maybe about going to A&E but I couldn't really face it!
