Help viiolets are taking over my garden. The are more or less covering my border and when i try to dig them out i am amazed at how deep the roots are for such a small plant. I am quite elderly and not really able to dig large areas i do my weeding with a trowel but it would take me hours and be too hard to get rid of all these that way any ideas ??

not helpful to you but I treasure my violets. They don't seem to smother other plants and while they are growing and filling space, I don't get less desirable things growing there. The colour in spring is a "freebie" as well.
If you do want to get rid of them, try a weed wand

you will probably need to go over them more than once though. If there are things like dead leaves around then wet the area down first or wait till after rain as its easy to set teeny bonfires lol. You can stamp them out in suitable shoes or they burn out but its worth being careful in dry weather.
I have the same problem. If they are in a border with other plants then I think digging them out is the only way, otherwise I would weed killer them.
Couldn't you live with them, bluebird. They sound lovely.
Oh my garden has been taken over with Lily of the Valley - its lovely
I'd rather have lily of the valley.
I'd learn to live with them - they look and smell so nice - my son regularly mows them as they are on the grass but they always survive -thank goodness.
