I was born in 1938 in Stratford East London where can I go tomorrow to obtain a copy of my birth cert, short copy will do. I need it soonest, I think Somerset House moved to somewhere near The Angel Islington, web sites want me to do it on line I cant find an actual address. help someone pls.

it was a sub-district of west ham i think, and the registers have been divided between 3 modern district offices and so you may need to ring each one

you just need to give them the date name and your mother's maiden name, they will have you on computer, or if you email me at dothawkes.co.uk i can look you up and give you the exact gro reference but this may nit be valid at the district office

Dee, I don't know about England, but in Scotland you can go to any Registry Office and request a copy of your BC.
It costs £15
it's not the same in England and Wales as they have to copy it direct from the locally held register
I never knew about our Registry Offices until a few monrhs ago.
I was under the impression that you had to go to the main Registry Office where your birth details were held,
EG, Martha Street, Glasgow.
