Can you tell when someone doesn't like you? I'm talking about people you have never met, people on websites like this, they suck up to you a lot, can you tell that they are coming across as insincere?

I have noticed this on another website I visit, yet the person who is being flattered by this poster doesn't seem to notice.

Have you ever come accross this?

How do you know they are being insincere?
Meh... you only get a snap shot of what they might be like and you make your judgements from that but they could be entirely different in their day to day life. You might not like how someone comes across on here but that's not to say if you met them as a stranger in a pub you'd not get on. Plus I'm rarely that interested in whether people dislike me so I don't give it that much thought.
Maybe you're thinking too deeply into it. Maybe they really do like the other poster.
most people take forums with a pinch of salt. I also think that insincerity becomes more apparent as time goes on.
I find the kisses a dead giveaway to someone being insincere. It's like when someone insults you, and then follows it with "xx".

The written word doesn't always translate to how the person meant it to be read, I've sometimes responded to a thread only to reread it as sounding quite arsey when infact it sounded completely different as I was typing it...if that makes sense.

Anyways, china sums it up perfectly. ;)
Yes I agree with China Doll. If anyone on my posts come back with rude remarks I just don't reply back or to their posts. Being on here for quite a few years you get to have an idea of what people are like you build up an image of what they look like but of course that could be completely different. So really I am not bothered where I am liked or not. I come on here to learn about things not wonder if I am liked or not.

Things are said in PM's about the person then when they're on the forum they're are all sweetness towards the poster.
I agree with MadMen. The fake kisses and fake smilies makes people come across as completely insincere.
I don't fake em. :)
It's when they put kisses and smilies at the end of an insult.
Sorry, I'm at crossed purposes.
It's like they think the smiles and kisses single out the insult. Lol

Some people get very upset by what is written on line.
I've only ever met sincere people AB, you all come across as helpful and giving. I would soon spot the fakes and I can tell you there are none.

Lots of love to everyone, Justin. xxxxxx
^^ LOL :D
Good job we don't do PMs on this site then. I don't think anyone sucks up to me, so probably I wouldn't have noticed!
I don't suck up to anyone... only when I know there's a mod around. Then it's bestest behaviour and lots of lolling :))
Anto7 #How can you tell if something is fake or is playing Devils Advocate ? You can't unless you know from their previous posts what they really think. It doesn't really matter Anto7 , just enjoy the site , it's not a dating agency or a social club.
Many posts are posted to imspire ,irritate , amuse , inform ,
question, challenge , bait , some are intellectual whilst others are moronic, depending on the topic.
If you don't like it , don't reply, or say what you don't like , but above all , don't be sensitive , develop a thick skin and stay on Answer Bank.
You will learn a lot.
