I had flu, or a very bad cold, from before the New Year. The cough lingered but then about 10 days ago the cough got worse and also a sore throat. I still have the sore throat but the cough is a bit better. Should I really go to see my GP? It's so difficult to get an appointment within a week or so. Thanks.

Well...it certainly is a well known pattern for winter viral infections and I would suggest Ibuprofen 400mgs as and when necessary for the sore throat. I can't see that a GP appt would have anything more to offer.

Thanks, sqad, that's good to know.
I'm told that colds do not linger for ages buut I had something about me I expected tp flare up since November. It finally did about a fortnight ago and I was inside trying to keep warm and find comform for about a week and a half. The only reason I went to the GP was that society doesn't trust me when I say I am too ill to work for more than 7 days, but apparently a GP is trustworthy and can give me a 'still not fit' note if I can crawl to the surgery.
Just thank your lucky stars you are not suffering from manflu
and if you are a smoker it will last even longer and make the sore throat worse.

Been there done it!!
Try to rest, take ibuprofen if needed. Hot baths, vapour rub on the chest at night. It will clear eventually... I have had the flu once and it was a month until I could honestly say I was myself again. I too had the lingering couch and sore throat about 7 days after all other symptoms went away.
A lingering couch JD?

Is that because you couldn't get off it?
Haha Hopkirk!! My mistake!!
