A very good friend of mine is going on a 21 day cruise on the Queen Mary 2 in October (lucky s*d!), she has wanted to do this for more years than I can remember and at last her dream has come true.
I would like to buy her a little something which she can take with her which will be useful on her trip. I have read a lot of the forums who suggest sun tan lotion, medication, lightweight jackets etc but they are just not what I want to buy, does anyone have any suggestions please?

I go on P&O cruises and the daughter rang them and paid for champagne and chocolates to be in my cabin as a surprise on my first trip....................I don't know if you can do the same with Cunard.
I did that for my mother Craft when she went on a cruise. I don't know which company she cruised with, but I think you would be able to do it on the Queen Mary. It's a lovely idea.
Is a Kindle too expensive?

If so, why not chedck which on-board courses are available, and treat her to one of those - some are free, some are paid-for, but the booking in advance will be the treat. they do thinks like bridge, dancing, cookery, computers, I am sure they will supply a list.

Oh, wow. Some good suggestions, yes a Kindle is too expensive but I will try to find out about courses and chocolates and things. My only problem is that I am in Spain and she is in the UK!!!
that shouldn't be a problem; crusie lines take money from all over the world.
if a kindle is too expensive then i think all other suggestions on this thread will be too

I have been in touch with Cunard online and they tell me I have to book 'treatments' through the travel agent, that's a non starter as they booked direct.
I'll just keep on thinking!

Great idea of Craft's but we have been on P&O Cruises and one short Cunard one and you get 'champagne' in the cabin as a welcome (standard, we were only Britannia class) with Cunard anyway. Chocolates would be lovely to have though.
If she's going for twenty one days, she is going to need some paper knickers.
Question Author
Don¡t actually think she is a paper knickers type of girl!
No seriously Duzy, I cruise regularly and have my clothes laundered on the ship but I wont put my kickers in the laundry bag.
So ,it's either packing twenty three pairs of knickers or having some throw away ones. She won't want to be washing her knickers and hanging them in the bathroom to dry.
How about a travel journal / diary so she can record everything each day ? If you have a Waterstones or WH Smith they can be good - or buy a blank page / blank fronted book and customise it with her name and pic of the ship etc ?
Question Author
Oh yes, like the travel journal idea, thank you.
yes, maybe a Moleskine one (they are quite trendy, though unduly pricy, but it's the thought that counts, right?)
Tilly when I go with P&O my mate washes her knickers and hangs them up to dry in the shower cubicle.............
my gran used to send herself flowers 'to our daring mother ...' because the florist always makes big fuss of you!

lol!

"our daring mother" - did she go bungee jumping a lot?
we wash our own knickers. Cabin boys haven't stolen them yet.
I put my knickers in the laundry bag, if they were to cause any embarrassment I would use the on board laundrette.
The Queen Mary?
