Hi guys. I have just completed my 75th pint of blood and have been given a form to fill in for my 'award' at a ceremony. Does anyone know what the occasion is like and what the award is. There is no indication on the paperwork given to me.

Cheers

Ali

you said emerald award are you living in the uk?
scooke, Emerald award is for 75 whole blood donations (UK).
Question Author
Yup. I'm in the UK x
I did 50 some years ago, and it was an unfussy affair with the doctor on duty just coming into the cafe area - I suppose ypo'll have had that, too.

Congrats!

Yes - all the awards have been handed to me at the donation session (gold pe, merit badges etc). It just this one there is an actual ceremony and for various reasons I won't go into I have to plan my 'evenings out' to the nth degree and weigh up whether it is 'worth it' or not. And I don't mean that to sound the way it does - I have to involve someone else so any events I go to tend to be superb and not just good. Does that make sense or make me seem like a cow :-) x
I would think that you will be awarded a set of green coloured vampire teeth.
Question Author
Now I would accept them if they were made from emeralds LOL

what breed is your dog in your avatar, Maggoty?
@Maggotty Just wanted to say congratulations on your altruism Maggotty. Extremely worthwhile activity.

Emerald award is a crystal plate, i think...
Maggoty - congratulations. I managed to donate 15 pints/donations.

They say that they don't want my blood now. ;-(
Well done maggoty, It was my ambition to make it to 100 donations but I had a stroke shortly before making my 75th, but what I did receive was a very nice letter from the from the Blood Donation Service thanking me for my previous donations. Go to the ceremony and enjoy yourself you deserve it.
Question Author
Thanks guys - it is such a worthwhile thing to do - even disregarding the fountain pens and crystal plates !!

Wow, well done Maggoty! That's an amazing number of donations.

My next one will only be my 10th so I'm a long way off yours but I like the perks of doing it. Especially the free biscuits! ;)

Dear DTcrosswordfan. My boy (Eric - aged 5 tomorrow LOL) is a labradoodle. He's unusual in that he has the size and shape of a lab whereas most doods are thinner and taller (like their poodle dads!)

He's often referred within the doodle community as a Labradonkey LOL
Maggoty I feel ashamed I don't donate near enough but have been trying to do more; you thoroughly deserve the award though.
My dad has recently been diagnosed with Leukaemia and is so much brighter after his transfusions so thankyou Maggoty and all the other doners. x
I can't answer your question, maggoty, but I congratulate you on your selfless donation.

Thanks guys. I'm an ordinary person with nothing special about me. Have no major skills or talents. This is my one way of making a difference. Just didn't want to shake off the mortal coil knowing I left the world as I found it.

Saddo - I know :-)

So come on you guys - as the ad says - do something special today :-)

x
Just wanted to say Well done on your 75th blood donation. I use to give blood got up to about 20 but had to stop just to being given platelets to save my life. From all the people who don't or can't give blood thank you for your gift. x
Maggoty - have had labradoodles too - my ex has them - they came from Rutland Manor - which as a doodle owner, you may have come across....

they are so wonderful as dogs and with kids - our 1st one had a thing for macaroni cheese and even watermelon.....would go nuts for it.
Question Author
Yes - know of Rutland Manor. TBF I got Eric before Labradoodles became popular, to me he was just another lab cross. So I'm afraid he has no 'pedigree' he's just trailer trash LOL. Luckily for me when I split with my OH I got to keep Eric. As you say - wonderful with kids, other dogs, cats (tho selective on who he doesn't chase LOL). I work as a volunteer for Labradoodle Trust and Eric and I often have to do home visits. Me to assess the family and which would be the best dog for them and for Eric to show them what their house would be like once its been doodled! When you have your children chasing after a 6 stone bundle of energy you may want to change yor mind ;-) Expecially if he finds your washing basket and rund around with a pair of knickers in his mouth.....

Love him to bits tho....
