We have read similar stories as this from time to time, but the question must be asked how do these people get away with it for so long?

And that brings on another question, how many out there are cheating just the same but have not yet been caught, and some may never get caught?

Yes we have seen the politicians get away with their questionable expense accounts, but they are highly educated people who can afford expensive accountants etc.

But cheats such as this woman, are just ordinary people, and some not very well educated at that, but if a 'degree in lying' was obtainable, they would gain a 'Masters' in it.

I'd be very surprised if you could live a luxury on benefits and getting £42,000 over 5 years speaks for itself. What may have been the real crime for having savings stashed away and not being declared. Even so they are defrauding the taxpayer.
rov, so would i, the system is a nightmare to navigate, so in answer i don't know
There was a case of a guy a few months ago whose family had originally come from Pakistan.

His elderly father lived in England and was getting a pension and other benefits. The son was his "carer" and also getting benefits as his carer.

A few years ago the elderly father went back to Pakistan but nobody told the benefits people and the benefits and pension carried on being paid to the father, and the son was still getting benefits as his carer.

Eventually the father died in Pakistan, and again nobody told the benefits people, and all the benefits carried on being paid for about 2 years, even though the elderly father was dead.

Who knows how many other examples of this that there are. Maybe benefits should "time out" each year and you only get them again if you can prove you still need them.
VHG, lots, and as they don't seem to work on the same system, one that should be available to all DWP departments, can see how it breaks down. Don't ask me about the time i have had trying to sort out varying problems in that department, as i will likely say something i regret.
I received 2 letters from the same DWP department on Saturday. Eash dated 9th November, the first one I opened said I was entitled to xx amount of Jobseekers per week, the second said I wasn't entitled to anything.
I guess you pays your money and takes your choice.
