A friend's daughter has asked me for a deck chair for Christmas, for her bedroom.

I suppose it would be inappropriate to hire one on the Pier, and just steal it?

she might prefer a cath kidston one...
Depends on how fast you run I guess.
Question Author
I might pop in tomorrow, rowan.

Or a Southsea ... http://www.deckchairs.co.uk/deckchair-boutique
There's a nice big metal container full of them, on the beach by the King's Road Playground. Anyone got a hacksaw?
Question Author
seadogg ...

... it might be a bit hard to run fast with a deck chair flapping in the wind.

Also, a bit conspicuous ??
Question Author
What is the "King's Road Playground" ?
Bloody 'ell, they're expensive, JJ!

Tesco.com were flogging them off for £12 each recently but they seem to have exhausted their stock. Clifford James sell them for £30:

They're more expensive than I expected, Chris.

When she asked me, I thought it was an odd thing to ask for. I was thinking ... garden centre ... £15 ...

But the ones with the pictures on are about £120.

Maybe I'll settle for nicking one off the Pier.
JJ:
I thought that you were in Brighton. The King's Road Playground cost over a million pounds out of your council tax! (It's just on the Hove side of the old West Pier, on the sea front):

Chris ... I love the blurb on your link ... "perfect for a trip to the beach" ... !

I don't think I've EVER seen anyone walking down to the beach with their own deck chair.
Jayne, deckchairs are so 1950-60's and so uncomfortable, why not go for a nice padded sun-lounger?
Question Author
Duuh me!
Question Author
Dolt ... I suspect there is some image thing going on, rather that comfort.

Aren't sun loungers a bit "Joan Collins" ?
Deck chairs are too basic for many beach users here in Suffolk, JJ. If you go to Southwold you'll see quite a few of these (which people have hauled for long distances onto the beach):

Question Author
Wow, Chris. That's fantastic.

But Southwold is quite upmarket, isn't it?

If you opened one of those down here, some oik would probably set fire to it.
"Joan Collins",? Yes kind-of, but , as I said so much more comfortable.
Is your friend going for the retro look ?
Question Author
My "friend" is 12.

She doesn't have much concept of "retro".

=0)
you could always go to Blackpool, Jayne, and nick some of Doc's????
12? Why would a 12year old want a deckchair? that's just strange!
>>>"Southwold is quite upmarket"

Well the most basic beach hut will cost you around £80,000, with the dearer ones costing much more than that. (They usually sell within minutes of going on the market). So it helps to have money in Southwold but, unlike Aldeburgh down the road, it's not 'snotty'. It's just a lovely old-fashioned resort town. (No CCTV. No police presence, other than a couple of PCSOs strolling round once every few hours. A ferry service across the river which is still operated by one man in a row boat. It's delightful).
