Try Pedigree Schmackos (I think that's how it is spelt) you can get low fat varieties as well.  I break them and feed small pieces as reward treats.  Dogs love them as they are easily digested.  Rawhide is OK if supervised, but personally I wouldn't give it to a puppy is case they swallow large pieces.

Dogs love cheese and if they get enough exercise, they will not get fat. You can also munch on this treat while you are training your dog. Yum!

Double cooked liver.
But ox liver, get butcher to slice.
Simmer in water till just cooked.
Cut into cubes.
Dry bake in slow to med oven till dry.
Apparently very intense flavour and dogs love it.

I also had a friend who used fruit. She carried a bag of chopped up fresh fruit.

My own German Shepherd would kill for satsumas, although my terrier type heinz variety won't touvh fruit of any sort.
Hope this helps.
