I'm going to the Dominican Republic soon and went to have my injections the other day; I had been advised by someone I know that I may need to have a typhoid injection and although not essential it is on the 'recommended' list. However; the nurse said "I won't give you that one because it's only recommended if you're staying there a long time...although I suppose the first thing you eat could give you typhoid...as long as you're sensible and don't eat salad or fruit you can't peel or ice cream you should be ok"
This has begun to get me worried as; like she says the first thing i eat could give me typhoid! Also; I really want to be able to eat ice cream whilst on holiday! Should I be able to go back and get it?

Can't remember what it was called but it didn't seem dirty or anything. We had had our jabs for everything so we didn't catch anything. It was a lucky break for us as we went for three weeks and had gotten a bit bored with the first hotel so being moved cheered us up!
Take with you some rehydration sachets, you can get them from Boots etc - essential if you do get traveller's diarrhoea.

I may go back to the doctors and just request if I could have it as I'm concerned; would rather be safe than sorry!

Yes; learnt that one the hard way after my boyfriend got gastroentiritis from a horrible hotel we stayed at! Always take some with us now!
I got it for going to DR and boy it stung lol x
Myself and all my family went to the DR last Christmas and I had no idea you needed any injections! We never had any and were fine lol.

Lol tigwig; I was convinced we didn't need any until someone else in the party asked me if I'd booked up to have them done! Need malaria tablets too!
I wouldn`t bother with typhoid for the Caribbean. When there`s a typhoid outbreak somewhere, it`s usually fairly well publicised. The Dominican Republic isn`t quite as established as a tourist destination as some islands but I wouldn`t put the Caribbean in the same league as Africa or India. I eat and drink absolutely everything there (in abundance) and I have never been ill. Well I had a bit of a bad stomach on the way home the time before last but it was a badly handled chicken roti and that could happen anywhere.

Thanks for the further reassurance; feeling much better about it all now and so excited!
