FAO SQAD - you out there Sqad. My 86 yr. old mother has just told me she has been bleeding from her back passage - it is red blood - and she feels as though she wants to go to the toilet -any ideas? I have told her to ring GP in morning. She had her heamarrhoids done years ago.

midge....it sounds as though her" Haemorrhoids" have returned.

Her GP will have a" probe"

Not to worry.

Thanks Sqad - that's what I told her to put her mind at rest - she thinks she's got bowel cancer of course!

Thanks also for correct spelling of "piles"!

Man thanks, June x
Pity they don't spell things as they are pronounced.
It sounds like either piles or an anal fissure. Both are easily sorted by the GP.
Tell her not to be embarrassed! There is a big national campaign at the moment re bowel cancer and it is amazing how many people say they would be too embarrassed to tell the GP that they have blood in their poo, even if it could be really serious.

Fingers crossed that for your mother it is nothing to worry about - if she doesn't mind, let us know.
