Not unusual. Have you tried to wake him and give him a bottle just before you go to bed yourself? That might buy you a bit more sleep.
Good advice, and make sure he is getting enough to eat during the day - increase the amount by an ounce for his last feed, see if this keeps him full and stops him waking for more.
Augh you pooooooooor thing, why not try the bounty website, www.bounty.co.uk there are loads of helpful tips and other moms in your position to chat with and share experiences and suggestions.
I think it's unusual and, at this age, is a habit, not a physical need. Try following the guidelines in one of the books about babies' sleep routines. I would be looking at replacing the milk with a small drink of water, then tapering this off, responding to night calls with reassurance but no drinks, and keeping response as brief as possible. (I have 5 children, and speak from experience).

I dont think its unusual, but not good for your sanity.  I have 2 one who is 9 mts now.  He eats ALOT right before we go to bed and sleeps very well right through the night.  He however was not doing so before.  I talked to a doc and asked about it.  She honestly told me to let him cry himself to sleep, just make sure he/she is fed, warm, and dry (anything that they could be crying over).  Let em go (cry) for 15 minutes, and then pick them up, love and comfort for about 5 minutes and then start over.  Also turns out a child will not starve over night, so sometimes they just get to used to the attention, so thats why they carry on.  I know it sounds soooooo awful, and trust me, mine and dh's hearts broke each time we did it. Babies have feelings too though and their only way to vent is through crying, its stress relief for them, lol just not for the mom's n dad's  On the bright side though our son falls asleep ne where between 8 and 9pm now, and he doesnt wake on his own till around 8am.  So hope that helps, I know we finally have some sanity, but the 7 year old YIKES a whole other story (girl) sure some people know what I mean. Thats where the real joy begin's.

Good Luck and I hope you get your well deserved rest!!!

my dau did it for a year it was so knackering the next we used bath just before bedtime them feed then she would sleep all night
It's not abnormal but is not a physical requirement at that age, so follow the advice above and be firm!! Good luck!
My 6 month old has stopped sleeping thru. He now only needs to be shushed back to sleep.  However, before this he was waking for a feed in the night.  I made sure that if say he had a middle of the night feed i would give him the same amount the next day an ounz at a time, to make sure he was really full by the time bedtime came.(if his night feed was more than 4oz and he guzzled it then i know he's hungry, otherwise its comfort.)  Secret is to be consistant.  Im in the middle of it now and feel like a zombie!!!Good luck
