Could be a bad fitting crown. You need to get this checked out - sometimes with repeated infections, it can spread to bone if not dealt with - this happened to a friend of mine - the dentist done a really bad job on her 3 crowns and she ended up at the London Dental Hospital in Whitechapel having her gums cut.

Don't think there is an easy option, unicorn, but get it seen to, sooner rather than later.
Wish you well xx
Your dentist is in the best position to advise you.
You need an accurate diagnosis before you can consider treatment options. For example, is the 'abscess' due to:
a) Failing root canal treatment?
b) Root perforation?
c) Incomplete vertical root fracture?
d) Periodontal problems?
Only once you have a diagnosis, can you then decide upon the most appropriate treatment. This can range from:
a) Extraction
b) Re-root canal treatment
c) Surgical repair of root perforations
d) Apical surgery
e) Root surface debridement
Hope that this might give you some idea of the possibilities, but each case is individual to that patient, so it's difficult to be more specific.
d)
