Can anyone please explain to me why, no matter what the accident or emergency, a person always has an oxygen mask applied - thank you.

Probabaly because it is not allowed to give them a stiff whisky!

It is not always good to do so: see: http://www.brit-thoracic.org.uk/Portals/0/Libr ary/News%20Archive/Oxygen%20Guidelines%20Q&A%2 0190908.pdf
masma...very good question.

Simple answer is that it is routine for ALL accidents.

Do you need O2 for an sprained ankle ?....NO

Do you need O2 fro someone in shock?....YES.

Most accidents and emergencies involve some degree of cardio-respiratory embarrassment, so O2 is given routinely.
