If you mean 8 pints on a Fri AND 8 pints on a Sat, then you're above the recommended guidline of 21 units for a male (I'm assuming you're male btw !!!).

Check this out:
http://www.bupa.co.uk/health_information/asp/h ealthy_living/lifestyle/alcohol/alctest.asp

I personally think it's b/s and it's down to each individual. I think that some people's bodies can handle the alcohol better than others - that's just my take on it though .... maybe I'm just trying to justify my large weekly intake of alcohol ..........
Also, it depends on the speed at which you drink.
Doesn't matter what speed Ummmm, the answer is still yes.

yes I am male.

I do not really see myself concerned about my drinking habits, just wondering what people think the limits are, sensibly.

I like a wee drink, but worry about all the hype on the units etc.
I don't think it'd be great for your health and things can take years to take effect and there are all kinds of other factors which could contribute to or make you at more risk of problems.

I physically couldn't take anywhere near 8 pints though I'm not a big drinker.

I guess it's moderation really. Say if I asked whether having 8 bags of chip shop chips a night on a Friday and a Saturday would do me any harm. I'm unlikely to keel over (like I would with the 8 pints haha) but in the long run my body would really not appreciate it as I'd probably end up badly overweight with a very bad cholesterol level which in turn would cause its own problems especially as I have a family history of early heart attacks and strokes and coupled with the fact I'm a smoker.

Argh...I so want some chippie chips now haha :)
You know, when you go out, you don't have to get bladdered - I have found I can have a good time at night on a few pints and then J20's for the rest of the night. Plus you get to see the state of your mates which is what you would look like too if.....
I would say yes. You would probably be described as a binge drinker and it would probably affect your health eventually.

Government guideline suggest males should consume no more than 3-4 units of alcohol per day, which equates to around 21 units per week.

A pint of Lager is around 2 units, so if I'm right in assuming you are drinking 16 pints over a weekend then you are having 32 units of alcohol in 2 sessions, which is classified as unhealthy. 35 Units per week is classified as harmful.
this govenment lies about absolutely everything and enjoys a very heavily subsidised bar in the HOC, stuff them and enjoy.
what do you drink the other days....half bottle of voddy
They usually refer to that as 'binge drinking' which can be very harmful to your health.
I hardly drink at all purely because I can't take it and get drunk on like 2 glasses wine!
I do have a blow out every few months and feel ill for ages.
Plus side is I look ten years younger than I am as I eat really healthy and am very active.
I think maybe cut it down so your not drinking as much all at once or spread them out over the week x
doomey....you already know the answer to your question, but it makes a popular thread as does, sex, my boyfriends left me after 80 yrs, then leggys unintelligable threads, but a couple of pointers for you.

Cost to the NHS associated with alcohol related disorders, just under 2billion a year......yes billion

Go to an A& E dept in you local hospital any Saturday night and see the idiots that arrive, abuse the staff and make a nuisance of themselves.

I could go on, but it would all fall on stoney ground.

Good luck
I like that point Sqad, having sat in a a busy city A&E on a Friday/Saturday night a number of times (never alcohol related) I find it horrifying what the staff have to put up with, mostly alcohol related, and it's telling that my local A&E has a constant police presence at those kind of times.

I remember getting a telling off from my doctor for not going to A&E when I have certain symptoms as he'd told me too, I had to explain that on a Saturday night, especially after a big football match, it was the last place I wanted to be and I'd rather suffer at home and deal with the consequences than end up there.
