sore trachea?

Hello, i wonder if anyone could help me? for the past few weeks i have had, and still do, a throat infection and tonsilitis. yesterday when i woke it felt like there is something in my windpipe. it hurts both on the inside and outside and is quite uncomfortable. could the infection have spread to my trachea? i have had 2 courses of antibitics which have not cleared up the other infection and i feel like it is spread. any help would be appreciated, yours feeling not very good, auntie vi

Auntie....not an uncommon complication of an upper respiratory tract infection is laryngitis (hoarseness) and tracheitis ( pain in the lower part of the throat.) Usuallly viral, but can be bacterial due to a staphlococcus. If it is viral, then there will be an inproductive cough, but if bacterial, the sputum may be coloured and requiring antibiotics.

thank you, better go back to the doctors again. 3rd time for antibiotics as they did not seem to make much difference so suggests viral but i have a productive cough so maybe bacterial. worth a try though, thanks
