my question is a bit like this:

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Body-and-Soul/Q uestion201874.html

I had the same symptoms like lump in neck, in left jaw...
I have difficulty in swallowing but not really soar throat.
It just hurts when I swallow. If not, it doesn't hurt.

We were the same except that the one who asked (in the link above) said her throat became black when she looked.

but mine, when I looked, my throat had a white spot.

What could it be and what should I do?
thanks :)

Sounds very much like tonsilitis to me.
It could be viral or bacterial. If the former there is no treatment, if the latter it might need an antibiotic.
A trip to the GP might reassure you.
Could be that you have a swollen gland due to a virus, you better see the doc to be sure, check your temperature also if you have a virus your temp may be up.
Sounds like it could be tonsillitis ( sp? ). When I get this I get a very sharp rough pain just when swallowing and lovely white blobs on my tonsils.
Best get yourself off to the docs to get it confirmed, you may need antibiotics,
Meantime, try to stick to soft foods - plenty of ice cream!Gargling with a mild salt solution may help too.
dragonet, not enough info.
The lump.....is it under the jaw and in the neck. How long has it been there?
White spot....is it on the tonsil or elsewhere in the throat?
Swallowing...do you have dificulty swallowing food?
Do you have earache and any change in your voice?
How old are you?

Sorry about all the questions, but need to be answerd for a meaningful reply.
Try a salt gargle for white spots.....need a doc though for the lump.

The lump.....is it under the jaw and in the neck. How long has it been there?

---it is in the left jaw, farthest to the left, about an inch below the ear.

---I had this soar throat last week and I noticed the lump but the pain went away after some days so I ignored the whole thing. The pain and difficulty in swallowing just came back yesterday.

White spot....is it on the tonsil or elsewhere in the throat?
---I don't know which one is the tonsil, but the white spot is deeper than the uvula.

Swallowing...do you have difficulty swallowing food?
---yes, its hard to swallow food, drinks and even my saliva.

Do you have earache and any change in your voice?
---no ear ache and my voice is the same. but I also have difficulty in speaking.

How old are you?
---I am 18 years old.

thank you
Yepp, sounds like tonsillitis and the gland in the neck is from the infection. The white spot, if in the tonsil, may well be a tonsillolith..food built up in the crypts which when bitten tastes like sour cheese. All the previous answers are quite helpful to you.

I consulted the doctor, but she only inspected the lump, from the outside, she didn't know about the white spot inside
and just told me to take antibiotics.

thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.
but does that mean that if I have tonsillitis,
is it necessary for me to have my tonsils removed?
or can it be cured by medicines?
Well, that will depend on many things such as how many attacks that you have in a year, how severe they are and if they affect your lifestyle. Basically 2or 3 attacks a year would not be a cause for concern, but if it became more frequent, then an ENT surgeion might suggest having them removed, but of course, the choice would be yours. Yes each attack could be treated medically and it is not unusual for the attacks to decline in frequency and eventually disappear.
