I have had a sore throat for over 48 hours and now have discovered a lump in my neck (under the jaw to the side). Any ideas as I hate antibiotics but feel rubbish! Don't think it's tonsilitis as have had in the past and don't feel as ill as that. HELP!

Sounds like a swollen gland in the neck to me - often associated with colds and sore throats. Not much you can do - hot drinks and TLC

Hope you're feeling better soon

Sort of thought that...is it likely to need antibiotics? Thanks!
It might - if it doesn't respond to the TLC within a couple of days, then it's a 'nasty' and will need killing, and that's down to the docs for you.
Could be Mumps?
It could be a Quincey, (not fruit), i've had one a couple of times, nasty, if it is, you'll have great trouble swallowing, left untreated, it can be fatal, not wishing to scare you, but go to your GP to get it checked out,

Well, I've had a look in my throat with a torch and it's now turned black! So, will go to the docs tomorrow. Thanks for response, much appreciatedx

It could also be a blocked salivery duct, I had one just on the left hand side of the underside of my jaw bone and it was very sore to the touch!
I have had my salivary gland removed.Do you feel a lump under your tonque with an enlarged/swollen tract from the lump?If so then try manipulated the lump with your tonque and sucking at same time - if there is an obstruction then you should feel a woosh of saliva and instant relief. The lump on your neck does tend to be sore.
