This morning the dentist said I have a gum infection.Im obsessed with brushing and flossing and I've had intense cleaning before as I struggle with plaque build up but have been lax lately about regular checkups as Im really nervous.I know its my own fault, Im having to go to another practice cos ours hasnt got a hygienist anymore, the referral letter says periodental disease which I know is serious. I dont know what I'm more terrified of, losing my teeth or the treatment, Has anyone got any experience please of this?

I don't know what type of brush you use, but I had the same thing, bleeding gums and loose teeth, my dentist told me to get an electric brush, a good one, (the one I bought was a Braun, cost about 40), she said to not only brush the front and backs, but also the tops and the gums,
I was cured within a week.
Maybe you could try that.
I agree with Lonnie an electric toothbrush does make a difference but you could also try Gengigel from the chemist at the same time, as the soreness and bleeding sometimes gets worse before it gets better. It's brilliant for soothing inflamed gums and helps the healing process.

Periodontal disease is a term used to describe pathological conditions effecting the supporting structures of the teeth. Typically it is a painless condition, but you may notice bleeding when brushingor in more advance periodontal disease you may notice teeth have moved or become wobbly. It is caused by toxins released by bacteria poresent in dental plaque the body's immune system sets up a response which unfortunately causes breakdown of the supporting tissues around a tooth. It is prevented and treated by removing block from around and beneath the gum margin. It can be made worse by smoking and certain edical conditions.
**Sorry block should read plaque
