If you've got the time...this is a little documentary about "the last hermit". He went into the Maine woods as a very young man, and was never seen until 27 years later.

Rather sad, as I found myself wondering what about his family...did no one miss him?

One is better than none...
A few might even miss you here ;)
Very sad and very interesting.
Part of me is appalled by the small town attitude but when in that situation who knows what I would feel.
All one can do is wish him well. I suspect he is not enjoying life, but who am I to speculate.
pasta, if that was Herman, they better go back into the woods and look for the other five Hermits.
Fascinating film Pasta - thank you.
Looks interesting- it does make you wonder how people end up in this kind of situation.
Maybe there's more in this book, written by someone who had nine one-hour meetings with him whilst he was in jail.

Fascinating, Pasta. Poor man, I wish people would leave him alone.
He's out now.

Thank you for the link Mamya. The video and article left me with many questions.
The video was made back in 2014, so it would be interesting to have a follow-up.
Very interesting. Have just reserved the book at the library.
