When Is The Right Time To Get Engaged?
63 Answers
My man and I have been together for almost 3 years, we live together, we have a shared bank account and a lovely litte dog. I am ready to marry my best friend (to clarify, that's him!) but he still isn't quite there yet, which of course, is fine. We're both in our mid/late 20's.
I was just curious as to what other people thought... 2 years / 3 years / 5 years / 10 years... how long were you with your spouse before they popped the question?

We met and married within 20 months but by the time we married we lived together, had joint finances and a baby on the way. We are both 41 years old - age is a big factor in something like this.
At your age just worry about saving hard for your future and not blowing all your money on a fancy engagement ring and wedding.

10 years after we met we got engaged, and another 2 after that we got married. There's no rhyme nor reason to any of our decisions to get wed apart from it felt right. You will know when the time is right. I always knew I would marry him in an instant, however him, like your man, was a little more hesitant in making the decision to which was fine with me.
I expect a little patience goes a long way and mine certainly did. 8 years married this year and he is...still...my best friend lol ;-)

danny....I am just giving my opinion as to when a relationship is working well, why get married. The divorce rate is just an example of marriage success today, other factors are the amount of money "lashed out" on weddings when it could be better spent.
One can have one's babies out of wedlock now.....so turning the question to you danny.........why get married?
