I'm currently taking 600mg of Ibuprofen every 4-5 hours for this nightmare of a toothache. What's the maximum amount that can be taken over 24 hours?

Thanks

think 8 ? look on info sheet..alternate with paracetamol... hope you get it sorted soon...
The dosage should be shown on the packaging.
I would say 1800mg (3 x 600mg) but Sqad's the expert in this field.
It depends upon who you ask and for what reasons you are taking the drug. In your case that would be the maximum. If that isn't relieving the pain, then you need to change tactics , another stronger painkiller or a combination.
no..4 ! 2400 mg in 24 hours...

I took 600mg at 9pm last night, then again at 1.30am. I'm in agony now, but if I need to eek them out....

Read what Sqad posts.

Apart from the fact he has shares in the company ;-/
Mines an own brand - 200mg - mine says 1 or 2 tablets up to 3 times daily. The dose should not be repeated more frequently than every 4 hours and not more than more 6 tablets in any 24hrs.

^^that sounds pretty low to me.

I'm not advising you to take more than stated but when it's only for 1 or 2 days I don't really stick religiously to the dose. Like Murray says though, you can take paracetamol as well.
rocky you can safely take paracetamol in addition or between ibuprofen I did when I had an abscess...
OK... Don't go above 3000mg.s daily.
If the pain doesn't subside... see a dentist.
rocky - why don't you go to emergency dentist at your local hospital - they should have one - will give you temporary ease over the weekend.
or search for an emergency dentist - you shouldn't have to wait until Monday for an appointment
your antibiotics should kick in soon

Thanks all. I'll go to the chemist and see if I can get some Co Codamol.

I've been to the dentist, they gave me antibiotics.

When it says take with food, is milk OK? I can't eat anything but mush at the moment.
soggy cereal ?

I've had some Weetabix this morning, but at 1.30am I just couldn't stomach it, so just had a glass of milk.
oh dear... best to try and get some food in when taking strong painkillers..and.... you may get constipated..sorry to add to your woes..get a wee laxitive at chemist whilst there..xx
I've taken them on an empty stomach but I wouldn't do it as a habit. Now and then is OK.
Question Author
I never take them on an empty stomach, just wondering if milk was OK as eating in the middle of the night isn't favourable.
Are co codamol availabe over the counter? I thought they were only available on prescription?
