Haven't had these for over 50 years used to take them quite regularly. But took one last night and one last week. What is this all about. Just pinched my nose and it stopped - thank god it happened before I got into my lovely bed clothes. Did lose some blood. Is this another part of getting old. LOL

My mum had that happen in her seventies - loads when she was a child, then it all started up again. The lining of her nose was very thin, she was told - she had to have the scar cauterised eventually, they went on for days at one point.
I think that nose bleeds are just part of the way in which we are put together. I used to get them when I was 6 or 7, for no apparent reason, except that hot weather seemed to bring them on. Then - nothing, until 2003, when I had a few in fairly quick succession. I am now 74, and I have been told that the skin wears thin by the time one is in the 70s, which means that blood vessels are that much closer to the surface, and are more likely to burst. So, yes, maybe nose bleeds really are a part of getting old. Dearie me!

mum used to say when I took them I was young - oh love, they are good as something in your head was going to burst so that was it coming down your nose - and I believed her.
Yes........getting old.

Blood vessels in the brain get old.........strokes.
Blood vessels in the heart get old..........heart attacks.
Blood vessels in the nose get old........nosebleeds ( epistaxis)

In the old, nose bleeds can be difficult to stop.
Argue with big bleeder in pub............
regular/heavy nose bleeds may be a sign of

high blood pressure.
If so, judging for Sqad's list, might be the best place to relieve the pressure !

reading it over you are right - a right chump I am.
Connemmara I suffered badly as a child with nosebleeds and all my children have too. If you get another one lean forward, not back and pinch your nose. Another good tip is something cold on the back of your neck, I used frozen veg. I don't know if there is a medical explanation but it worked for me.
Clarys....Google " Little's Area"............children tend to pick their nose and it bleeds from Little's Area.

Cold at the back of the neck, causes the blood vessels to close up and reduces the bleeding.
Thanks for the link sqad. I had my nose cauterized when I was about seven it didn't stop the bleeds just made them less frequent and less blood loss.
Strangely enough all my children have ended up in A&E with something up their nose: a peanut, an eraser, a piece of Lego and most bizarre of all, a piece of broccoli.
Clarys..LOL
I don't blame them. I'd rather stick broccoli up my nose, than eat it, too.
conn, I wasn't meaning you were a chump.sorry, it just made me smile :)
