I need some guidance regarding painkillers, I don't know if there is one that I can take that is better than Paracetamol.

I have pain in my shoulders (I am sure that the doctor said that it was the ligaments - told me to keep moving) and in my lower back when I walk.

I currently take the following medication -

• Lansoprazole
• Simvastatin
• Setraline
• Priadel /Lithium
• Ramipril
• Bendroflumethaizide
• Amlodopine
• Metformin

I can't take Aspirin as it kills my guts, Co-Codamol constipates me and Ibuprofen is not as harsh on my stomach as the Aspirin but is not advised when taking Lithium.

Is there anything else that I can take? Is Ponstan going to upset my guts too?

I am sure that I would feel much better if I stopped the Lithium but ......... maybe not a great idea.

I ma not and never have been a Ponstan fan....it never really made the grade.

You need a pain killer....that is the bottom line and Lithium seem to be the stumbling block.

If Ibuprofen eased my pain and although i was taking Lithium, pain relief would be main concern and i would continue taking Lithium.

I presume that you have blood levels estimated at regular intervals.
Everyone is different but Ponstan gave me an horrendous rash and an upset tum.

My Lithium levels are always at the middle of the range - if not lower.

I will give Ibuprofen a trial run and see how it goes.

I am not in the right frame of mind to go see the doctor - he might discover that I have not seen the Consultant Psychiatrist for a 'while' and make me go.

Robina - I am sure that I was on it when my periods were very heavy but can't remember why it was stopped.
well you have gone thro the main classes of pain killers.

I wonder if you have maximised my clear favourite - paracetamol.
It is possible that you are getting 'breakthru' pain as you are only taking it at timesof pain.

in which case you could try a simple trial of regular paracetamol, Ig every six hours if you are normal sizd (70kg)

otherwise try ponstan - it might after all work !
I took Ponstan for 18 months when I had tennis elbow...........it was brilliant and had no side effects.
