As a type one diabetic can I lose weight (burn off fat) without producing ketones? There is probably a really obvious answer, but I hadn't thought about it before
Thanks

Of course you can........providing that you cut down on your oveall diet and adjusted your insulin dose accordingly.

You only develop ketosis when there is no carbohydrate to burn for energy and the body then states breaking down protein, resulting in a state of ketosis.....which could be dangerous for a diabetic.........or anyone else for that matter.

OK, I follow a fairly low CHO diet anyway - about 70g a day, and have quite low insulin needs too (19-24u depending on what I'm eating and doing)
Never really thought about low CHO producing ketones, but after a day of pump failure ketones are on my mind!
