I`have just heard on the radio that from today a drug which was given to the terrorist whom blew up the aeroplanee over Scotland, and gave him years of extra life becomes available in Britain from to-day, and I would like to know the name of it. As I have mentioned in the past, I was diagnosed with this disease 8 years ago and am still going strong, but a few more years wouldn`1t go amiss.

I think its disgraceful that this drug was first made in 1990 and 21 yrs later NICE has still got to pass it as safe to use..

Apparently it`s only available to patients who`ve had Chemo and I`m not aloud to due to heart problem.

Sqad, why can't surgeons just remove prostrate glands that become cancerous.. can men be screened for this disease like women are screened for ovarian or breast cancers?

@ Sammo The prostate gland can and is removed through surgery as one of the methods of treating prostate cancer - the procedure is called a radical prostatectomy - but, as with all procedures, the risks have to be balanced against the benefits.

carlton....interesting point you make.

I agree with slaney and Lazygun..

Many types of prostate cancers are so slow growing,that even without treatment, they may never kill you and to undergo removal of your prostate gland for a condition that is unlikely to kill you seems a bit harsh.

I would have second thoughts about submitting myself to radical prostatectomy.

For the"clear cut " malignancies" the options are presented to the patient depending upon many factors, e.g type of tumour, local spread, distant spread and age of patient. For more in depth explanation Google....Prostate Cancer Staging.

If I was in your position carlton, I to would enquire about Zytiga which was available in Libya, but only now available in the UK.
