But puddi...you're the one who spent it..lol!!
Everytime I go, it costs 100. I don't tip anmore, as 10 is way too much for a tip.

A trip to the hairdressers is often more than just a case of getting your hair done, IaP. We have a natter with our stylist - and yes, the coffee and biscuits - and then come out again feeling great. It depends on how you look at things, as to whether these prices are over-inflated. Not too long ago, I knocked the wing mirror off someone's car. Cost about 200 to have put back on. Now THAT'S a rip off! Lol.
I get a shampoo and cut and hair tonic massage

8

quality innit?
Tony & Guy cutting course in UK is around 5k. L'oreal colouring 5k. All with diplomas. They stylist can be under contract for 2y to the companies with basic pay rates before they qualify and that's after 3y apprenticeship.

Anyone can cut/color hair for less but will it have the professional finish you seek? You get what u pay for!

Here's an idea of academy charges:

busy guys like me and leg aint got time for non of that stuff ice

we got tax to pay (well i have) lol
How often do you have your hair done? I go every 4 weeks for a cut & roots touch up and pay 35 so just under 9 a week. I'm definitely worth it!! It's good to put it in perspective and compare it to what you pay for other things.
Anyway, do you like it?

Get my hair done every 6weeks or so, and every time i go its been different, sometimes 54 or 62 or the best 74 thats when i get the full monty, but its just a back sfreet salon, the odd cup of coffee those gorgeous gingery biscuits, and i dont do gossip, i love the girl that does my hair, she is the best i have had, reluctant to stop going there, and use the college which will still be about 35 alot of difference in price, but not the experience of your usual stylist, and i always tip the girl, just thinking of velvetee paying all that money arrrgh!!!!
Only a 2 tip puddicat? Tightwad!

I don't always tip, but if I'm really really pleased I'll dish out up to 10%, but no more.

Hi sally loads dont give any tips these days, she must get paid a reasonable amount got a super duper car!!!
puddicat....divide your costs with the number of weeks you expect to return (usually about 6) = just over 10pw for your style and making your hair manageable.

Feel better now? Incidentally, how long did it take?

If you use self-employed stylists (salon rent-a-chair) you receive a quicker service than from an employee who receives a set daily rate and can keep you in salon for 4 hrs or more.
terambulan is right - you are paying for the skill of your stylist, which takes years of training and experience to aquire.

Remember those dreadful DIY comb / razor things they used to sell, Billy Connolly does a routine about them?

The reason why we go to salons and not do our own hair is because, like many things in life, it is nothing like as simple as it looks.

I go to a barber every fortnight for a Number One, costs me 6, and I don't tip, but will give the guy a bottle at Christmas.
as a former hairdresser, yes they over charge but some salons are way worse than others. Not sure why they feel they can charge these silly prices cause we all train the same!

If you ever go in a wholesalers, i think you'd be surprised at how much a perm lotion is for example!

where i worked, we charged 35 max for a perm,. the salon down the room that was supposedly the top one (it wasnt) would charge about 70-80 for the same thing! I would never pay that for my hair to be done! Its crazy!
I pay about 70 ish, I dont even tip sometimes, didnt realise I was supposed to! Normally pretty skint after that anyway, need whatever I have left! They always do a good job though I have to say.
