Id like to pick your brains ladies.

My fella has got a big do next week, hes getting a commendation from the fire service for bravery :) and its gonna be rather a posh dinner.

Sadly at 18 weeks Im the size of a house and i have nothing very glamourous to wear at all for his big night.

Has anyone any idea wear i may find some nice evening dresses in a decent maternity range? Ive seen a couple but some are designed for a size 8 woman with a neat little ball for a bump and thats not me at all :)

Lots of the dresses just now have the empire line waist (pinched in high under the boobs), which while not actually meant specifically for pregnant women, lend to having a bit of a tummy.

I've just got a lovely dress for a do from Wallis, I'm not expecting, but if I slouch at all it looks like a could be.

I suppose in a round aboout kinda way I'm trying to say that it might not have to be an actual maternity dress, just one with the right shape.

Good luck with your search and enjoy the do!

thanks rhona, Ive been living in the floaty tops from standard ranges (not maternity) for the last 18 weeks. But Im now getting that little bit too big to get away with it i think
:(

There are some gorgeous ones here redcrx

They're a little pricey though. The ladies modelling them look like normal preggers ladies, not the tiny ones you mentioned. :-)
Congrats to your fella BTW.xx

thanks daffy. I have the ruffled one on my faves list now but still searching for something that little bit special lol
Have you tried Blooming Marvellous or Littlewoods?

I was having the same problem not so long ago. Last month it was my school reunion and they wanted it to be in prom dress!! Luckily they gave up on that idea lol

Well done to your partner :)
Wow, didn't know you had your own sexy brave fireman, you lucky, lucky lady. Well done to him!

What about this dress? What sort of price rannge are you looking at?

ah natalie, if only i had the boobs, but even this pregnancy has decided to pile it on my middle and not my bust lol.

Thanks anyway, off to look at blooming marvelous, why didnt i think of that!?

oh and yes, i am lucky to have my brave fireman, although hes just retained and it was only a chip pan fire pmsl :)
Only she says!

Chip pan fires are the biggest domestic fire killers! Nasty pieces of work them!

I also thought of Dorothy Perkins for your evening dress. Ive been getting most of my maternity clothes from there.
The real bonus with maternity dresses is that they are cut slightly lower at the front hem...so when the bump is protruding the front of the dress isn't up by your waist!

At 18 weeks you might get away with a normal empire line dress, though ;o)
Question Author
psychick, they get more fridge fires than chip pan fires in this area, luckily most people are slowly realising the dangers of chip pans.

Ooooh, tres chic. I like it :-)

And a snip at 35.... well that's how much it would cost as far as my hubby would be concerned ;-)
I was gonna say 24.99, lol.

I usually knock off the hundred bit...

It's lovely, red!
Question Author
good thinking you 2, i like your style! :)

24.99 it is, what a bargain :)))
Ok ladies you got me.... you obviously saw me leaving Dotty P's yesterday with my 3 a peice maternity tops..... very pleased with myself I was too

24.99 it is :-)
Question Author
if dotty Ps stuff was long enough in the body for me then id be chuffed to bits too with 3 tops!

If you want something that really covers a bump and is lovely and soft and warm then pumpkin patch have a top in sale at 12.99. It comes in white, black and pink and is so comfy. http://www.pumpkinpatch.co.uk/Clothes.cfm?fav_ look_img_id=1128&fav_look_section_id=14&fav_lo ok_screen_id=1&web_site_id=3&on_sale_only_flag =0&anchor=1128&thepage=1&viewall=0&QueryNav.of fset=1&QueryNav.len=10&#top
I don't really have a bump yet to speak of but as money is tight I figured there will come a time where I will be so enormous that frankly I won't care what I am wearing! Have put that site on my faves though. I bought two "girlfriend" type jumpers like that from DP, one black and one green, they come a couple of inches above my knees and I'm nearly 5ft8 so it might be worth a look.
Are you extremely tall red? lol

Im like natalie, Im 5'8" but Ive got the biggest bump ever lol Ive got a few maternity tops from Dorothy Perkins and theyre covering my bump just fine as they hang down further at the front :)

That dress is gorgeous btw!
Question Author
Im only 5'6 but have short legs and a long body. So with a bump as well a lot of clothes last time round started to inch up my bump and were awful.

I shall have a look for jumpers next time Im near a DPs with maternity (they closed that section down in my local store).

I bought a long cardi from sainsburys which isnt maternity but it fits well and my bump just pokes though, which looks nice.

at 18 weeks I really really look big and pregnant, theres no mistaking it now lol
