Ken Dodd at The Rose

Not sure if this classifies as The Arts but it was the theatre ! Did anyone go to see him last night, what did you think, and what did you think about The Rose, also the lady pianist ? Where can I find some history about Ken ? He is fascinating !!

Sorry having probs with computer lol. he was still going strong when we left. Very funny, good non smutty huour. he is amazing in my view.

Loved it Rosetta, never seen him before but how does he remember everything? He went off on a tangent a few times, I think he forgot what he was trying to say, and then went on another path with another set of jokes, one just leads onto the other one, then he goes back to the first joke he hadn't finished !! His little band (reminded me of Phoenix Nights) had to remind him of a couple of words as well .. But he had a lady pianist and guitar player on, when he had his break, and that was awful. People were taking the opportunity to go to the loo or for a drink, so really she was a waste of time, brought down the atmosphere a bit, very corny He started around 7.10pm, an hour's break altogether, and finished at 11.45pm. Kept cracking jokes about how we were going to be there for about a week and that search parties would be looking for us .. The Council even made sure the Car Park was open after midnight so everyone could get their cars out ! Usually the grill comes down and you've had it until morning, but the guy at the car park said "someone special is at the Rose so we are opening later" !! Brilliant night. I can't believe he is doing 60 venues with this show.

Yes, he made some of the same jokes about search parties with us but there were also lots of local jokes. I love the way he interacts with the audience, none of it crude or nasty. I bet there aren't many young modern comics that can say the same lol. How he remembers allthose jokes I do not Know.
I was speaking to a woman who saw him last year and he didnt finish till 1.30 ish. And he is 80years old. Incredible!!!

I read a blog about him, the guy said he finished at 2.30! He starts around 7 pm so not like the usual theatre -- 7.30 till 10.30 and at least double the price. What good value for money. The last of the great comedians.
