There is a series of books by Piers Antony, set in Xanth, a magical knigdom the same shape as Florida. the rest of the world is Mundania. Walking sticks are sticks that walk and pie occasionally falls from the sky - so you can tell that the Night Mare will be ahorse etc etc. They are absolutely top. I teach English in a boys' school and most of the younger ones (11, 12, 13 years) and many older Scifi addicts adore them. Some are a little 'strong' perhaps, but you could read them yourself first to check! The first one is 'A Spell for Chameleon'
I had completely forgotten the Xanth series quizzy... most enjoyable, by and large.

Another series that may appeal, if you can still get your hands on it would be the Zelazny "Princes in Amber" sequence... if memory serves, I think they would be suitable for that age range.

ooh I LOVE The Amber series!! I have all those as well lol
Hey cat! I'd be looking for a collection of short stories, something by Asimov or Clarke maybe. Perhaps Star wars. I've not read those but there's always loads on the shelves. If he's a fan of the films try some of those.
yes I am a fan reread all the books many times.
Glad to help:-D
